if they had the best in Home Cinema they would not need this. 4k should never be transcoded, EVER. People should honestly have 2 separate libraries and only give access to those users who can direct play 4k content. That is my PERSONAL informed opinion.4 points

Your text is disrespectful and really inappropriate given the fact that you already know that the feature is coming shortly.3 points

And that is why I suggested that the team limit it to Intel 11th Gen only, at least until something more reliable comes forward. There are open-cl plugins that sometimes work, and someone is attempting to develop a Cuda based filter, but nothing is working 100%. Intel will have it hard coded into their ASICS for quicksync. https://edc.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/performance/benchmarks/11th-generation-intel-core-tgl-u-and-evo-launch-2020/ And for those saying that softworkz has been sitting on their duff doing nothing, they've been actively trying to get Intel to get this implemented. Stuff like this is out of the hands of the Dev team if the software that they use has not been built in house. And sooty, you're being extremely disrespectful and beyond rude. Educate yourself on what is happening in the back end before you comment on things that are obviously far beyond your limited understanding.2 points

I think we're talking just about two different things: The one side is about the best strategy for building and curating a media library. My personal view for that is: when you don't have a HDR display for the primary viewing setup, then it's stupid, to acquire HDR content and rely on your media server's tone mapping. That's just inferior to acquiring original SDR content instead. But the other side: When you only have an HDR version of a video (for whatever reason) and want to play that on an SDR display, then a media server should of course be able to do the tone mapping to play that video in the best possible way. And that's what we will deliver. It is one of the oldest items on my list, but in the past, it just wasn't possible to do this with acceptable performance.2 points

For live encoding you would need at least Turing or higher, as that B-Frame support makes all the difference (I do not have personal experience with Quicksync though I know it is freaking awesome after 8th gen with hardware tone mapping included in the upcoming 11th gen). Hardware h.264 encoding has seriously progressed to the point where it can be unable to tell if it's a hardware encode or a software encode. HEVC on the other hand it's still pretty easy to tell the difference between the 2. What I do is keep my libraries separate that way I can control who has access to what. It is far easier to control manually. I also have multiple version of the same movie, 4k remux, 4k encode, and then an 1080p version. Remuxes are for personal viewing in house, 4k encodes are for people who have great internet, and 1080p is for the plebs with garbage tier. Yes it takes up space, but it's far cheaper in the long run to have multiple copies than to be re-encoding them every single time a user can't direct play. As for audio issues, I ensure a compatible audio track is included with every single encode that I have created. From a purist standpoint, Tone mapping is garbage and should never be done as you will never match studio SDR grading. It's only an extremely vocal and disrespectful minority that are demanding tone mapping.2 points

Hi, I’d love that audio and subtitles choice would be saved per show, according to what you select on the last episode you watched. The main audio/subtitles parameters is a good point but there are many cases it is not enough and you need to adjust audio and subtitles at the beginning of every episodes. For example i like to watch Casa de Pale in Spanish with french subtitles, The Big Bang Theory in English with french subtitles, French TV shows in french without subtitles, ....1 point

** UPDATE ** There are two seperate plugins on this page - you will need to read the thread to see which one (or both) is best for you. The original plugin (Actor Web Scraper) works at the server dashboard, it cannot be used or accessed by clients. This is my first proper working attempt at this. Its a bit clumsy but works. I may revisit this one and update it, but for now it is what it is. The newer plugin (Custom Person Provider) is internal and works when you click an Actor card, it is also triggered by clients. (but configured from the dashboard which they cannot access). This plugin can quickly be turned on/off in the config page. ----------------------------------------------------- This is the first working beta release - special thanks to @roaku for their help getting the javascript on the webui working It only scrapes one actor at a time, im not going to do one that hits these websites continuously for the whole lot in one go so don't ask. Please feel free to try it, test it whatever. Built with net standard 2.0, so should be compatible with most emby releases. I have added linux support but have no way to test it - so let me know if it works Feel free to suggest anything it lack or improvements that could be made. Enjoy There is another plugin lower down in this thread, "custompersonprovider" which uses the internal Actor image system, its in Alpa stage, and it works seperately from this one. Please read the blub if you are going to try it. As always the blurb: I accept no liability for anything - use at your own risk Custom Poster Provider ** Updated 5 feb 2021 *** Added a few more scrapers, but also added the ability to pull images from other Emby servers ** UPDATE 25 JAN 2021 WITH FIXES ** *** NEW 3rd Feb 2021 *** Added Internal Image Search Scraper Plugin. This is seperate to the Actor Web Scraper. This is Called Custom Person Provider because it works when you click the actor image inside Emby. Try not to use all the scrapers as it will actually slow down load times for your clients who click on Actors that DO NOT have an image already. I have added a config page so that scrapers can be turned on /off. Trakt images are webp , they work well but may cause image processing error in the log from emby when it tries to resize it as it acesses it. I am currently not sure if all "client" app support it either, all of my tests do, but thats not all devices. ActorWebScraper.zip ActorWebScraper-server 4.6.0.20.zip CustomPersonProvider.zip1 point

Have you seen this? But to make them different you target each /* Google Now Playing Bar & Now Playing Page */ div.videoOsdVolumeControls .emby-slider-background-lower, div.videoOsdVolumeControls .emby-slider::-webkit-slider-thumb { background: purple !important; } div.videoOsdVolumeControls div.sliderBubble {background: transparent; color: green;} div.videoOsdPositionContainer .emby-slider-background-lower, div.videoOsdPositionContainer .emby-slider::-webkit-slider-thumb { background: orange !important; } div.videoOsdPositionContainer div.sliderBubble {background: transparent; color: yellow;} You will have to add FF.1 point

Yes but as I stated this was done before you got it back up and running for me. It was running fine with the edits, Emby just wasn't including The, A, El, LA, etc.. as part of the title in shows and movies.1 point
-
The ones that have to do with remove a, the, el, la, etc... from the titles. I put a backup on the desktop and compared the lines above and below that section after removing them and everything was there. Between Cayars and myself we got it running again. It was just a matter of entering http://10.0.0.86:8096 in the browser. Today after restarting the service and enabling it it didn't work. EDIT: https://pastebin.com/CucWdX3D1 point

I was getting a lot of the same songs in my huge playlist (5000 songs) too when using the app shuffling. However, since using a script given to me which shuffles and saves the whole list combined with the app shuffle option I don't seem to have this issue anymore.1 point

We'd love to, and hopefully we will be able to. It's just a question of what it will cost us and whether or not there are enough users in any given country to allow us to make up the cost that we have to pay for the guide data.1 point

The existing apps will need updates based on some of the changes.1 point

@RDHoworthEmby hasn't been trying to force users to have multiple copies of the media, but it was the only was to do this in a reasonable manner. Emby wasn't ignoring tone mapping at all. The tools used to transcode (ffmpeg) just didn't support it so we had to wait until the added basic support, got it debugged and working with GPUs. It's only recently gotten to this point in the last couple of months. Meanwhile softworkz has been working on enhancements to the basic ffmpeg so it will work even better when used with Emby. There is a difference of "not listening" and "having your hands tied" and not being able to do something.1 point

You are right, I'll fix that in next release. Seems to be a collateral damage while I optimized the sync code.1 point

@softworkz How will Emby determine if HDR to SDR is required? Will there be an option to disable? I only ask, as when I play a 4K video via my Shield connected to a 1080 TV, playback is direct and not washed out. I believe this is as a result of a recent Shield Experience release. Thanks.1 point

indeed, someone on here developed some powershell scripts that did exactly that. shuffled three times i think to create more random playlists1 point

Completely understandable. I wasn't expecting a fix at this point. My post was more of a heads up to make you aware that there might be an issue when the next stable version goes live.1 point

Hi. No, not specific to 3D but you can set the option in the app to change to the resolution of the content.1 point

I also have installed Kodi19RC and the actual Version from this Addon (5.1.7) After the initial DB Sync in Addon Mode on all Series the Season Posters are not showing. After downgrade to 5.1.6 and a complete Database destroy and resync the Images for seasons are ok.1 point

I finally got back to it today. With 5.1.7 I got it all working except it still does not play Dolby Vision. It still reverts to HDR instead.1 point

This requires occasional internet access but does not require constant internet access.1 point

I'm like many of you...transcended the time of only 3 network OTA channels back in the late 60s and 70s to today. I went through the Betamax/VHS wars, then the DVD/HDDVD/BluRay wars and now to hard drive based and streaming media today. I too was an avid WMC7 user during its time. Which is how I ended up on Emby. I fell into WMC after having tried BeyondTV, SageTV, MediaPortal and many other 10ftUIs. The quest started after all that I wanted to do was replace my NTSC hard drive DVR with an ATSC one. Hardly anyone was making an ATSC DVR at first except for TiVO, DirecTV and the cablecos. I wanted to ween off of pay TV and just go OTA. I had already been through the pocket gouging bundles of both cable and satellite (and then TiVO wanted you to pay for their service on top of that). I just wanted something that would record OTA ATSC signals with minimal fuss and a remote control. It eventually came down to WMC (at the time on XP and Vista). Then finally the cable gods opened up the OCUR standard and let us get cable card for the masses. It was finally enough to convince me to sign back up for a cable package/bundle. So by way of WMC7 and all of that forever seeking the best eye-candy experience we could get I went through MyMovies and settled on Media Browser. Media Browser became Emby and moved to the server/client model. Then 3 years ago we physically moved (sold our house). The new digs did not have service for cable TV and for once I was glad to tell the cable TV company to get lost. Here in the sticks we can only get DirecTV, OTA and 25mbit 2-wire AT&T broadband. I'd already lost the taste in my mouth for DirecTV/Dish so I signed up for streaming service (AT&T TV Now, YouTube TV trial previously). So with Emby to take care of all of my owned media (personal and commercial) and streaming accounts with AT&T TV, Netflix and Disney+, an HDHomeRun OTA, A Channels DVR account to get my streaming channels into Emby and Android TV boxes and Rokus throughout the house, I think I'm pretty much set for the foreseeable future. At least until something NEW comes along, of course (haha)1 point

@MRobi Yes, yes i have. Multiple times even and i referenced and or linked it in this post several times. I know it says those things. I'm just trying to understand why it works fine for most and then fails for others. I've actually spent my day trying to figure out things like that. I find such things interesting, that's why before continuing to post i asked if it was fine if i kept posting things i discovered. I have even been contemplating applying the complex folder structures, you know all movies with A in folder named A but i decided to hold on off on that while i was looking into this. And if anyone else is curious like me in the future they can benefit of it. So for people with identification problems, here's some stuff i learned. Alot of things need to be right for scrapers to work, i tried listing up things below. If your edgecase doesn't fall under that then just use the last options they work. So example of things that can mess it up, moviename in your library "theres ..." moviename in the databases "there's ..." So just not having the ' in between e & s can already mess up the identification. This can be the case for : . any kind of character really. Also proving to be problematic is things like, directors cut, extended edition, any kind of variation of the normal movie name basically will sometimes mess up the identification. Most common problems (for me) seems to be with movies that have multiple words in the title. Here are some things in naming that sometimes work, sometimes they don't, no idea why don't know enough about such things unfortunately. Can work but sometimes it doesn't. Movie series movie 1 - name movie 2 - name movie 3 - name ... Movie.name.audio.tag.codectag.extension Sometimes it helps to remove the item that isn't identifying from the folder, move it to a different folder (not in an emby library) let emby scan, then move it back. What always works so far (is what's on Emby's naming scheme) In the end, if you don't want to change the filename to your file, you technically can leave it as is but you will have to do one of the following if you want proper identification on it. When you see the movie in your library, you got 2 options. 1) type name and year in identfy and see if it comes up, if it does then boom take the correct option and move on to the other step 2) You can look it up on one of the databases, put in the database ID you found in the identify window Choosing 1 or 2, after that you need to go to metadata, scroll down and tag "lock this item to prevent future changes". That way you won't have to do it again for that specific item in the future. All that being said though, at this point in time the only thing that i am unsure of is the 3D videos naming, which to be clear i followed the guide for that as well Example in the guide: /Movies /300 (2006) /300 (2006) - 1080p.mkv /300 (2006) - 720p.mp4 /300 (2006) - 3d-hsbs.mp4 /300 (2006) - 3d.hsbs.mp4 /300 (2006) - 3d.mvc.mp4 So for my personal problem i have the movie "avatar" in a folder just like 300 is in the example, yes name with year. In the folder i got the normal version and the 3D version. 1) In my library view i still got 2 videos next to eachother, is that intended? I did go into the metadata for the 3D version and selected the right 3D format (on other movies it did it automatically). 2) Or is it intended to be you choose the movie and then on the movie page you select which version you want to see? So folder wise that is /movies /avatar (2009) /avatar (2009) 3DHSBS /avatar (2009) standard Decided to add some screenshots to help explain what i'm trying to say. So yes i see that it has the extended stuff behind it but it's getting identified so i don't think that matters here. My point is more the double view in the library. So for this movie i can just select an image that has a 3D logo on it but there are other movies where the database doesn't have such images.1 point

Hi @Luke @ebr how you guys doing? Hope you are all keeping well in these rather dull, boring and very strange times. Is it yet possible to make themes for clients, such as theatre, etc? Cheers and stay safe1 point

Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue: Thanks !1 point

Nobody is hung up on the hardware and we are not catering to the lowest common denominator. Not sure where that came from. But at the same time a low to mid end system without a GPU isn't likely going to be able to use this without an upgrade. If you can already transcode high bitrate 4K media then your system is a candidate for this. If your system AS IS right now can't transcode 4K media then with tone mapping there is virtually no chance it will work.1 point

To gauge interest... What if you had the ability to "Forget" a series for the purposes of Next Up display. That is, it would no longer show in Next Up - unless you watched another episode. Sometimes you maybe watch a series for a while and, even though there is more of it or more is made later, maybe it isn't as good as the earlier seasons or maybe you just don't have time for it anymore. So you'd like it to quit showing up in your Next Up list so it is less cluttered and you can focus on the series you are actually watching now. If you start watching it again, the "forget" would be forgotten and it would start to show up in Next Up again.1 point

I also got tired of waiting for Emby to support EDL files, but I am unwilling to do destructive editing. I ended up using Emby for Kodi, and using Kodi as a front end. As long as I set it up as Native (Direct Paths), then Kodi will honor the EDL file, and commercial skipping works. I use the Amber Skin, but you can use anything. If you like the Emby look, then they make a skin called Embuary that looks like Emby. May not be for everyone, but I have been using it this way for months now, and it works well.1 point

Can you implement Theater plugins back into the server side. Or is it just that there aren't any plugins available for Theatre and that's why they don't appear in the drop down. Cheers1 point

Hey guys, sorry for inactivity, I've had to suspend work over the last couple of weeks. I was actually enjoying some time with my wife over our anniversary and getting some new sheep and now have a couple of pigs too now. Got myself a new smoker too, ready for when the pigs go to slaughter, but i'll have to practice with some brisket in the meantime I'll be happy for any testers to help when the time comes. I'm back on the case now so will have some updates for you soon. Cheers1 point

After years of requesting, and lagging far behind the other platforms. This has been repeatedly pushed back. Remuxed HEVC hasn't even been fixed! Years have passed, and absolutely nothing has been done! My text...is 100% appropriate.0 points

Yes, that would be the ideal. But it isn't anywhere close to reality. There are far too many variables to guarantee that someone won't have a bandwidth fluctuation, or have unsupported audio (because that major blunder has never been fixed), or that all the devices in the chain of use support HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG etc. The puritanical ideal that provision should be made to cover all possible playback error scenarios, is idiocy. Softworkz, I know you hate the idea of anyone transcoding their media to HEVC to save space, and probably several other similar situations, but only an extreme few have your perception of detail. Most people have no idea what they are looking at, but they will notice something that is outside the norm. This attitude is why Emby is lagging so far behind the likes of Jellyfin and Plex. I have a sizeable storage array, but the growing amount 'HDR' media is immense. To expect every user to maintain a duplicate of every TV episode and movie, both in HDR and SDR is absurd! I fully believe that if Emby doesn't catch up to the others soon, it'll start a backward slide..... actually, the slide has begun. Very few people care that what they're watching is the best they can possibly get. They wouldn't even recognize it if they had it. They are happy just watching the compressed streaming content from the likes of Netflix. They just don't care! This feature has been fought against by Emby from the beginning. And it's because of a terrible attitude. Do your job, and your job is to provide the userbase with what they require, not what you think we should want or have. I work in customer service. If I had that attitude, my customers would be pissed off at me. Emby is a user/customer product, not a pet project. Swallow your damn pride, and do your job!0 points
