My Samsung TV cannot directly play PGS Sub format subtitles (commonly used in blu-ray media), but it can directly play the video and audio. In this scenario the server re-encodes the video track with hard subs... I might be watching a 4K H265 video and just because the subs aren't compatible, the entire video has to be transcoded. From my point of view, that's a load of unnecessary work that we can potentially avoid. Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to try converting the subtitle track to VobSub format, or at least have an checkbox option in the user profile to "Convert incompatible subtitle track to VobSub" if the incompatible subtitle track is the only reason for transcoding? VobSub has much wider support on devices, as is the case with my particular brand of TV. Implementing this would be great for those of us using who enjoy direct streaming blu-ray content to Samsung TVs and other devices that don't support PGSSub subtitles. There might be other subtitle formats I'm not familiar with that could also be converted with this method. It should be very easy to implement, here's a quick example of an ffmpeg command converting pgssub to vobsub: ffmpeg -fix_sub_duration -i "input.mkv" -c copy -c:s dvd_subtitle out.mkv The '-fix_sub_duration' argument is necessary for some reason. Without it, subtitles don't display at all or they display and never disappear.2 points

If you uncheck it, it would only be stored in one "central" metadata folder, usually under Emby's programdata folder, but you can choose custom location as well.2 points

Emby is worth so much more than they are asking for it. Plex? Pfffft. Something just .. I can't place it. Don't like it. To much like "Let's see what we can get out of you" kind of thing. Yes, the model changed a little bit, from what it was when it started. But with that, it's gained also gained quite a bit of benefit too. When I chose Emby, it had live TV, while Plex had excuses why they didn't. I'm somewhat convince that Plex might not even be as functional as it is now, if not for Emby being like a forest fire under the arse of Plex.2 points

Calling people dumb AF when they are trying to help you isn't usually a good idea. Yes many people use torrents and it's more popular then ever. People are asking you these questions because the naming you are using is "broken" and they are trying to help you. Those names are NOT advantageous to Plex in any manner as they use the same naming conventions we use. If you name your files correctly they will work in both systems just fine. A bulk rename utility would make quick work of renaming the files correctly and putting them each in their own folder. If you name your media as suggested in our Knowledge Base you won't have issues. https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159102-movie-naming2 points

I've been dying to know if this has garnered enough interest to be worked on. I found Emby (MediaBrowser 3 at the time) and its bookshelf plugin while I was searching for something that was like Plex for comics. Plex doesn't do this (and probably never will), Kodi doesn't have what I'm looking for either, and ComicRack seems to be dead at the moment. Unfortunately the bookshelf plugin doesn't work the way I had hoped. I was dissappointed to see it only offer a download to the file to which I can open it to the program of my choosing. Even browsing through the books I only had the option of going through folder-like directories and couldn't browse by author like the people section in the other media types. I would love for it to be fully integrated into Emby where I can open and read a comic right on my phone and tablet or even my web browser as I could with my movies and tv shows. Also, I hope to god somone is working on the "Games launching in android" feature you mentioned on your up-for-grabs blog post. That would be awesome!1 point

Hello, Perhaps I am not the first one to ask this question but it will be very cool if this feature could be implemented. I have 2 servers one at home and the other at work. ( and soon a third one...) So I have a movies library called movies on each server. I would like to see all the movies from a single 'virtual server location' when I use the app (ios or android ) where I will see only one movies library containing movies informations from the movie library at work and the movie library at home. It's an aggregation of movies informations from the movie library at work and the movie library at home. In fact when a user have multiple servers it will be perfect if another choice in the server list called "all servers" for example appears automatically with a merge of media informations from librairies with the same name on different servers.1 point

While setting up a new device or just searching for the next hiccup it would sometimes be useful to be able to jump to the currently playing media which is shown in the server dashboard. Maybe just by clicking on the image of the active device. ATM now, I have to search for the item in the search field (which sometimes work and sometimes not) or need to manually browse through the library to see the media details.1 point

Hello all, it would be really helpful to have a data field at the metadata, which contain the original film name. on my HD the file name corresponds to the name of the film as it was released here in Germany. That means, i have to search the orginal name to get the right info from imdb. But if I do that, then I lose the connection between file name and metadata. In this context, it would be great if the sortname is automatically filled greeting Taurec1 point

Hi Guys, I recently moved from Kodi with MySQL for lack of proper multi user management and server side support, I have to say I'm impressed with Emby. Together with the Kodi Plugin it really takes the solution to a whole new level, count me in among the supporters! One feature I would like to see is the ability to recommend movies or shows to other users: I share my Library with close friends and family but it is a big library so they are always calling me to recommend them a movie to watch. It would be really cool if after watching a movie I can click a Recommend button and choose the users I think would like the movie, then it is displayed on their suggested movies at the top with the name of the user who recommended it... Sorry if there is something like this is already there, I am new to the interface and don't fully know it but could not find such feature... Thanks!1 point

Is it possible to add a bitrate for users that are direct(whatever) something? It's good info, and readily available. Thanks1 point

All my playlists are M3U, usually made in Windows Media Player. All my devices/programs can share the same M3U file with the exception of Emby since it needs the absolute path. If Emby could do a swap internally so that the absolute path could be deciphered from the "(Optional) Shared network folder:" path, it would be great. Example: Library Folder: /mnt/Music (Optional) Shared network folder: \\192.168.1.6\Music M3U needs to be: /mnt/Music/Songs/Backstreet Boys - Crappy Song.mp3 Would be great if Emby could figure this out based on shared network folder name so that this would also work: \\192.168.1.6\Music\Songs\Backstreet Boys - Crappy Song.mp31 point

Often times when I see "Reason for transcodng: Media bitrate exceeds limit." in the info I wonder, what kind of internet connection do they have? I know this can cover multiple scenarios like bandwidth limit set for user, server, client side quality setting, as well as AUTO bandwidth detection... Can you PLEASE add to the dashboard the returned client bandwidth capabilities? The value you are getting from the client that tells emby its bandwidth abilities. While you are at it tighten up the spaces between lines on the transcode items, and align the results to the right instead of center.. MAYBE SOMETHING LIKE THIS :1 point

If you are interested in this feature please like the post. Many photo enthusiast use RAW files when they take pictures; they come in a lot of different flavors and extensions. Here from WIkipedia: .3fr (Hasselblad) .ari (Arri_Alexa) .arw .srf .sr2 (Sony) .bay (Casio) .cri (Cintel) .crw .cr2 .cr3 (Canon) .cap .iiq .eip (Phase_One) .dcs .dcr .drf .k25 .kdc (Kodak) .dng (Adobe) .erf (Epson) .fff (Imacon/Hasselblad raw) .mef (Mamiya) .mdc (Minolta, Agfa) .mos (Leaf) .mrw (Minolta, Konica Minolta) .nef .nrw (Nikon) .orf (Olympus) .pef .ptx (Pentax) .pxn (Logitech) .R3D (RED Digital Cinema) .raf (Fuji) .raw .rw2 (Panasonic) .raw .rwl .dng (Leica) .rwz (Rawzor) .srw (Samsung) .x3f (Sigma) It would be a nice addition to be able to manage and display these in the Photo library ! I have checked and my Nikon .nef are not handled by Emby1 point

Almost done a plugin layout. After the task is complete... Probably a long time first time run... There is a service entry point created, so clients can request the data from the server, it's by item.InternalId it will return a json object with intro times. I suppose... It would then be up to client developers to take advantage of that data {blink}{blink}1 point

If it can’t find a suitable region it’ll return -1 -1, and if it returns a region which is too short (I put it at 10 seconds for now) it’ll also get rejected at the end. As far as taking off a few seconds to show the end of the intro, I was thinking the same, but I think that should be up to whatever is actually doing the skipping to skip to a few seconds before the end of the intro region. This way we can leave the intro region as it is.1 point

Have you selected folder or album display? I use folder, because it works best for me, at least (my metadata is not all up to scratch yet!). A common cause for everything getting thrown together is if the higher-level folder (that containing Vol1, Vol02, etc) has any audio files in it. Any folder with an audio file is taken to be an album, and sub-folders just get subsumed into it. In any case, you then need to choose whether to have one album of twenty discs, in which case the album name should be the same throughout, and the disk number sorts the tracks, though they all show in one long list (I'm not sure about the 1/20 format - I've not used that, just the number alone); or to have twenty albums each of one disk, with the album names differing and the disk numbers all 1 (or not, I'm not sure), or even absent. Can't help much, but yes. Shield Pro to Soundbar to Sony TV works fine with Luke Android app including Vision and Atmos. Shield to Sony TV to Soundbar also worked, but not as well with a few issues. Solutions ? no idea except things you've though of - settings on Shield, settings on TV, trying a different hdmi connector/socket, maybe a different cable... Hi and Happy Holidays, I changed my recording settings for Cobra to record new and repeat episodes, and I set my metadata downloader settings to the defaults. I also deleted all the old files and metadata so it would all be created from scratch. Recently, three episodes were re-aired, so I was able to record them. All of them recorded exactly as I would want - correct metadata and files in the correct location and with correct names. So apparently turning off metadata fetchers beyond the defaults fixed the problem. I turned off: Series metadata downloaders; The Open Movie Database Season metadata downloaders: TheMovieDB Episode metadata downloaders: TheMovieDB The Open Movie Database The downloaders that were turned off were all at the bottom of the priority list, except of course that there is only one Season metadata downloader listed, so now none is on. So that begs the question of why having those turned on caused this problem. Thanks very much1 point

Depending on how/where your ISP is blocking your traffic, a VPN may not resolve the issue. If it's a specific port they've blocked, you can change the port in Emby's settings. I'd also recommend confirming that it isn't your router/firewall/modem that has the port blocked. Most ISPs allow you to configure port forwarding and such. In terms of VPNs, I've long used PIA (Private Internet Access) so they are my only personal experience, but there are many options out there. One thing I'd note is that I would not trust a free VPN.1 point

Come vedi a me l'han proposto ma a pagamento.

What is the codec of the video inside the avi? If it's MPEG4, then transcoding is unavoidable with the current ATV version. To work around transcdoing I personally convert those files to h264 with the convert function of Emby. Might also work for you...1 point

no we don't have to. Plex can do it without any problems. Infuse is even better, but the Flac coding is a great solution. So the Emby app is pointless because every 2nd Movie has DTS from BluRay.1 point

It looks like wan ports are forwarded correctly. You likely are behind a CGNAT that your ISP has in place. If you like I can do a remote support session with you and help you verify if this is the case. If it's not a cgnat issue I should be able to help you get things working. Send me a PM if you would like to do this.1 point

Unless I missed it I'm not seeing any mention of Fast Startup in Windows. That must be shut off or you will have problems with NTFS drive in Linux. I had to do this for my roommates machine with Manjaro. If you by chance do not have Windows any longer there is a command to use to clean what Linux considers dirty drives. I'll see if I can find the post for it and post the info here. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-turn-off-fast-startup-windows-10-a.html1 point
