Thanks for all the help on this thread. It's been amazing. Everyone chipping in with ideas and solutions. It's an excellent community of clever people and very patient. The end result is a fix and easy setup for the end user. Once the stable release is out I will switch over from my qnap to the windows server. Happy days.3 points

wow the ignorance - all of us are users like you - who have no control of what the devs do or when just because you decided to pay for lifetime gives you no more call on what happens - no entitlements other than to use Emby Premiere features -although it appears you do think this As for whinning - well you are doing it again2 points

Put on your reading glasses and read about all the dev work being done. LOL Love and respect your posts on the forums, but think you missed the boat on this one. You can complain this type of thing wasn't done a year ago and I won't argue that position and might agree, but now that it's in active development, in alpha testing and nearing beta testing I don't concur at all. There is nothing more any Emby team person can say, except this deliverable is not a customer wish lists, it's not only an idea, not just a plan, not just a design spec, not just a dev guide, but has been developed and is in alpha testing with about a dozen fellow users selected from the forums with "unique requirements" to push and test features who are testing and have been for a few months. Yes there are non employees actively testing both the UI and the playback pipeline. The team is trying to cover many issues people have had. Feedback is taken, software adjusted, restesting happens. This will CONTINUE until the devs and users think we have a very powerful system that is easy to setup and use.2 points

Oh this is promising! Looking good so far on Emby Server 4.5.1.0 and Roku client 4.0.10. Gonna test out more files that I know were causing problems before. TY!2 points

Does a lyrics plugin exist for Emby? Something to show the lyrics of a song while being played. It doesnt show in the Plugins catalog, so I assume one doesn't exist?1 point

While Emby already has recommendations built in based on previously watched items I find they are not all that helpful. They seem to be based on genre only, for example, because you watched a comedy here are other comedies in your library. I do like how the also directed by/appear in recommendations work though. What would be great is if Emby could incorporate Trakt's recommendations as they are much more sophisticated. Trakt's recommendations are not only based off of what you have previously watched but also what your Trakt friends and other Trakt users have watched. It takes user ratings and trending/popular media into account. Ideally Emby would include full Trakt integration allowing users to rate media after watching, view lists and recommendations, and view upcoming media all from within Emby but for now I think recommendations would be a nice addition. Trakt has the potential to give Emby that community feel and allow users to discover new media, find something to watch, and recommend media to other users. http://docs.trakt.apiary.io/#reference/recommendations1 point

Hi I just got hold on Raspberry 4 with 4GB ram and run with Raspberry Pi Desktop full desktop install and I got hw encoding working fine. I have try from raspberry 2 - 4 and Pine64, RockPro64. of all current I try and sussess at last got what I wanted is with Raspberry pi 4 pi2-3 are too week doing software decoding in real time at all when it comes with HD and higher if you matrial is only 640x480 then it good for. RockPro64 have to bad kernel support of gpu and video decoding so it got simluare problem as pi2-3 even it got more powerfull cpu, but in most time it can do full hd transcoding, if only audio need be transcoding. Pine64 is second best of all these it got opensource h264 hw decoding that works from native linux kernel but it got problem with h264 10-bit matrial and 4k transcoding Pi 4 is only one that does not have problem with 10-bit matrial after you got hw encdoing working choice openMax H.264, the cpu core will drop from 100% to 60-70% and u can still use the desktop same time. >>>>>> Affected codecs Encoder OpenMax H.264 Profiles: Baseline Profile (Level 6), Main Profile (Level 6), High Profile (Level 6) >>>>>> FindVideoEncoder - Media: h264, UseHardwareCodecs: True, Mode: Custom Info Checking: 'OpenMax H.264' Info Check successful - selecting 'OpenMax H.264' >>>>>> FindVideoDecoder - MediaType: hevc, Mode: Custom Info Checking: 'Automatic software decoder' Info Check successful - selecting 'Automatic software decoder' >>>>> Legacy Command /opt/emby-server/bin/ffmpeg -ss 00:01:48.000 -f matroska -i file:"*********.mkv" -threads 0 -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -c:v:0 h264_omx -copyts -filter_complex "[0:3]scale=1280:720:force_original_aspect_ratio=decrease;[0:0]overlay=(W-w)/2:(H-h):repeatlast=0" -b:v:0 1922574 -maxrate 1922574 -bufsize 3845148 -profile:v:0 high -level:v:0 41 -g:v:0 72 -keyint_min:v:0 72 -sc_threshold:v:0 0 -vsync -1 -codec:a:0 ac3 -metadata:s:a:0 language=eng -disposition:a:0 default -ac:a:0 6 -ab:a:0 384000 -ar:a:0 48000 -f segment -max_delay 5000000 -avoid_negative_ts disabled -map_metadata -1 -map_chapters -1 -start_at_zero -segment_time 3 -individual_header_trailer 0 -segment_format mpegts -segment_write_temp 1 -segment_list_type m3u8 -segment_start_number 36 -segment_list "/media/usb/linux/emby/transcoding/transcoding-temp/E12C39.m3u8" -y "/media/usb/linux/emby/transcoding/transcoding-temp/E12C39_%d.ts"1 point

To gauge interest... What if you had the ability to "Forget" a series for the purposes of Next Up display. That is, it would no longer show in Next Up - unless you watched another episode. Sometimes you maybe watch a series for a while and, even though there is more of it or more is made later, maybe it isn't as good as the earlier seasons or maybe you just don't have time for it anymore. So you'd like it to quit showing up in your Next Up list so it is less cluttered and you can focus on the series you are actually watching now. If you start watching it again, the "forget" would be forgotten and it would start to show up in Next Up again.1 point

Note also that having upnp enabled in your router is a security risk if you are not aware of it and why it needs to be enabled (it only makes settings which can in any case be done manually, in which case you have more control). Paul1 point

Hi Martin, That is very sad news indeed. I’ve been on a journey to find a viable 10-foot UI replacement for a highly customised WMC config since about March, and Emby with a NextPVR TV backend is the best trade off combination of all the products I’ve tried. Your plugin has a few jagged edges, but with recent releases of Emby and/or NextPVR some of the rough edges have gone away - right now I’m even running your plugin on an Emby/Synology NAS connecting to a remote win10/NextPVR server, and it works very nicely. Luke - m3u playlists don’t really cut it for folk who are used to instant tuning to DVB-T/T2 broadcasts and being able to run DVR-like functionality on HD transmissions. Good to hear plans for Emby to support HW tuners natively in the future, but I suspect there will be quite a journey until there is built-in support for all the functionality that the dedicated DVB apps currently provide. Personally I’ve come to the conclusion, admittedly unexpectedly given that I started with WMC, that the idea of an all-in-one solution seems like a good path, but the reality is that it limits user choice and ends up being unsatisfactory because integrated apps will always be weaker in some areas when they try to do everything. Better to stick with the client/server model of cooperating ‘dedicated’ apps. For example - I wanted to love MediaPortal, but ended up just frustrated with everything about it. Just as a personal reflection, I’ve been using Emby (MediaBrowser) for a very long time now, and if Emby/NextPVR stops being an option, then the fallback option IMO is Kodi/NextPVR - that would be a shame because, although Kodi has better integration with many different media sources, I think Emby has far superior media management, and honestly I don’t love the render quality of the built-in Kodi player (Emby moving to PVR player for windows desktop is a winning move if it delivers top quality image quality). There needs to be an ongoing viable and mature DVB solution though. steve1 point

Can't speak for everyone but the issue appears to be resolved for me with 4.0.10. I can't reproduce the issue anymore with the same tv series files that normally cause it for me. Thank you emby team!1 point

I like my Shield but I find it to be more suitable, for me, as a server for Emby rather than a client. I find it, and most other Android devices, to have a clumsy basic interface that, while it claims to be made for watching TV, feels much more like it is a mobile device running on a phone that has been shoehorned onto a big screen. The Fire devices are better but still over influenced by touch screen type design. If you like Android interfaces the Shield is most probably a reasonable client device but, for me, its power is best used to serve the files and not display them. As a qualifier I have to state that: 1: I do not have any use for resolutions above 1080p 2: I do not need fancy audio. Anything better than Dolby 2.1 is lost on me. 3: I do not need sub titles for most of my media as I speak the languages for 99% of what I have and where I do not I just burn them in when ripping media. I can see, maybe, the need for the Shield's power and versatility for those few people that can actually see or hear the slight differences the those powers produce during playback but most people only think they can see or hear the difference. Each person must make their own choices for clients and servers but I see little reason for needing the power of the Shield for small, if any, improvements in video or audio playback. I do not wish to offend anyone. I just want to express that, for me, the cost of a Shield for Playback is wasted.1 point

OK. So regardless if they are an Emby Connect user, you ALWAYS have to set a password. That would be their "local" password and has no effect on their Emby Connect password? Is that the correct SOP?1 point

Thanks @Sammy! I downloaded the evaluation version of MCEBuddy and have figured out how to convert to the original directory and save the original video file off to NAS. I have also figured out how to do the same using Emby's Convert feature (other than moving the original video file) but I like some of MCEBuddy's additional features like removing commercials. Thanks for the suggestion!!1 point

That looks to me as if Dad has no password (it's not got a space for Current Password above the New Password fields). That would make it unsurprising to be able to use that account without a password... Paul1 point

This is probably correct. When using the Emby Android app, with network monitor enabled, I can see that as soon as I start to watch something, the data rate is high for the first second or so, then immediately is throttled to around 1.5Mb. With the Web app/player, there doesn't appear to be any throttle (Sprint).1 point

Great news, the arm64 architecture is now supported. The build in the first post has been updated with a new package for that. Thanks guys.1 point

I can access the recording destination from my pc and see that it is recording because the size keeps increasing. Anyway, since I could not solve that problem, I installed a couple of different firmwares on it, and those do not have that issue. Right now, I am running an ATV ROM created by a different person and the Android Server is running perfectly....1 point

To me they need to be separate libraries if they want separate languages to be displayed otherwise only a nfo file in there preferred language. Since Emby will only display one language in a multiversion environment.1 point

If you do a Google search, this specific issue seems to happen randomly across most models, and either randomly goes away, goes away after uninstalling and reinstalling the app, or after doing a full SmartHub or TV reset.1 point

We found that by testing. The only issue is that the dashboard reports this as Direct Playing, which clearly it is not. Paul1 point

Hmm; I admit I've never tested it myself; even Flac is typically well under 1mbps, so it's never occurred to me to limit it further, even when listening through my phone when walking the dogs. So I tested it just now, and you're right - playing audio files appears not to transcode to meet the selected quality setting. But in fact a transcode log has been generated, and contains the settings which I requested, so transcoding has actually taken place as required. The problem is that the dashboard only reports video transcoding, it being considered that when playing video files audio transcoding is a trivial concern in comparison (I and some others feel that both should be reported, but that discussion has happened ad nauseam elsewhere, and we've lost). However, in the case that only audio is being played, the arguments for it not being displayed on the dashboard (that it would make the display too complex) are no longer valid - so perhaps this case should be handled separately. @Luke Paul1 point

Do you need to use Connect anyway? What happens in the apps if you simply specify your home's (external) IP and the port you've passed through the router? It might be helpful for you to go through the connectivity checklist to ensure you've not missed something. Paul1 point

You don't get much computer and storage capable of media streaming for $1000, and less than $1000 won't buy enough films and series to make it really worth having a server at all. But $120 (for lifetime) is still peanuts alongside the minimal $2000 I postulate. Anyway, discounts mean one of two things - either they are running short of sales and will soon cease operations, or they are routinely overcharging and occasionally have a sale to distract people from that fact. I believe ALL requests have now been completed for all color schemes. Thanks for all the feedback and requests, and I apologize for such a long time between updates!1 point

Be happy they are even offering Lifetime. They could move to a subscription only service like many others have. I say get it while you can.1 point

@ebr - The Apple HLS spec allows FLAC, but not via mpegts and it finally ends up in the question which client would support it at all. It's very uncommon.1 point
-
This will be in the next update to the android app, and two updates from now in the iOS app. You'll be able to select which folders you want to upload. Thanks.1 point
-
I don't think FLAC can be passed via HLS so, once we need to remux or transcode for some other reason, we must also convert the audio to a format that can be delivered the same way. @softworkz can correct me if I'm off base here...1 point

Hi, yes it's possible for future updates. Thanks for the feedback.1 point

3 years bump! Hi, I opened a feature request about the exact same thing yesterday but the ticket was closed because this one is still opened from 3 years ago. I'm currently running Emby Linux 4.5.0.20 beta and this feature doesn't exist. Is there any plan in the pipeline to have this feature? We need to be able to pre-select audio/subtitles for a whole series or season in one shot and have these preferences saved instead of these preferences only being remembered after you've selected them individually on each video file. Please give an update on whether this idea is being considered or not and why. Thank you!1 point
-
Hi, I have tried to see if that was brought up before in the forum but I didn't see anything quite like what I'm about to mention. Right now Emby has a way to set global preferences for Audio and Subtitles language that can override default flag on video files. It's also possible to select the audio/subtitle track when playing a series's season or a single file.. that seems to also take into account the global preference mentioned just above. What I propose is to be able to save even more granular preferences for Audio/Subtitles. My use case is that I listen to a lot of different kind of video media in different languages.. and the majority of my files have multiple audio and subtitles tracks and I don't always want to listen to them in French, English, Spanish, German or Japanese... We need a way to be able to save Audio/Subtitles track preference on a movie/tv series (tv series season) basis.. these specific preferences would override the global preferences as they are more specific. Another argument in favor of this feature are file with multiple Audio/Subtitles tracks flagged with the same language... I've seen this happen in 2 cases recently: Movie - Cast Commentary track which is often the same language as the default flag of the file Anime DVD and BD releases often have JPN & ENG audio tracks but also 2 ENG subtitle tracks... 1 which only contain the typesetting (translation of signs and written japanese) and 1 for the full audio + visual translation... I think this demonstrate a need to be able to save granular preferences for Audio/Subtitles track on a per Series per User Profile basis. Thank you!1 point
