  1. Well maybe it is a littler presumptuous of me to request congratulations but I believe I have accomplished a good thing for me. I have almost 4000 movies and nearly 40000 TV episodes. That is not a huge library but it is respectable. They were in man formats and extensions including avi, mp4, mkv, m4v, mpg and divx. Many of the files would direct play while many others (about 5-10%) did not. I scanned my entire library for files that would not direct play on one of my devices and used the resulting list to feed FFmpeg Batch Converter and converted the files into a direct playable format. It took most of several days but now my entire library will direct play on any device I own. It was a bit time consuming but I think it will be well worth it. My library included several files from a long time ago that were converted by my uncle using tools that ae now quite antiquated. I feel a sense of accomplishment and I believe it will be easy to maintain my library in a condition that will always direct play. My hardware was quite capable of transcoding as needed but this will mean that it will never be under strain from streaming duties. I know that what I did is not really a big deal in most folks eyes but I have been wanting to do it for some time and it really feels good to have it done. Now if only the rest of my life could be made to be in as good a shape as my media library.

  2. This feature request is requesting that the "Settings Theme" and "Theme" preferences be stored in a conf file, instead of in the browser cache. I understand that a number of preferences are stored in browser cache and are reset when the browser's cache is cleared. I was hoping these preferences could be saved somewhere, where persistence would be possible across devices and without having to whitelist cache locations. It's just annoying changing the themes and subtitle settings every time I log into Emby, it seems like a very easy change. Thank you for your consideration.

  3. When setting up a new user I think it would be great if I could copy an existing user. Even better if you could copy certain aspects of a user like views , library access , parental settings

  5. The subtitle files in .ass format aren't natively supported by the Fire Stick. If you either convert the .ass subtitle files to .srt, or find the subtitles you need in .srt format already, you can avoid the transcoding due to subtitles. If you've looked at the naming scheme link that Happy2Play and seanbuff talked about, I'm sure you've seen this already, but to reiterate a quick example for you, just change your folders' names to have the year following the name instead of prior to it. In the Hamlet example, use "Hamlet (1990)" and "Hamlet (1996)" to distinguish between the versions rather than "1990 - Hamlet" and "1996 - Hamlet" and you shouldn't have problems.

  8. I would love the option to store Emby's database in MySQL - I have a setup that serves around 30 people and I feel that there would be real performance gains by using a proper relational backend over SQLite (I'm presuming). On top of this it would make life easier for me when reporting on watched status a cross users.

  9. Hi, On the Server you can currently see active devices on the dashboard, and consequently which users are watching what on what media. However, there's no way to abort these active devices to either conserve bandwidth, conserve server CPU, or simply to stop a renegade process. One use case that would be particularly helpful is when you're casting from the phone app to ChromeCast. If the phone gets interrupted, you lose control over the stream so that the TV stops showing whatever you were watching, and there's no way to stop it or regain control over it. Instead of having to stop and start the entire server, it would be nice to just click on that particular activity on the dashboard and press KILL (or perhaps a less dramatic word - cancel?) Food for thought? -Florux

  10. Hello. Would be great to be able to adjust subitiles delay in Emby Theatre or Web client like we can in VLC with "H" and "J" shortcuts (up and down). Thanks !

  14. Pre-Order here: https://www.roku.com/products/roku-ultra New additions: Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and BlueTooth with support for AirPlay2. Supposedly the AirPlay2 support is also coming to RokuTV. Not sure if AirPlay2 support will come to other Roku STB or stick models. The price after this releases (October 15th) will likely drop to get new adopters onto the Roku platform. The Emby Roku app will immediately identify the new Roku ultra can support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. You will not need to do anything extra. Emby has had support for both Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos for quite some time when using an Roku TV and/or an Roku soundbar. Now you can do this on an Roku ultra with ANY television and/or AVR. Anybody going to pre-prder? Also.. the Roku app on your mobile device now supports playback. No longer do you need a Roku to stream from the Roku channel. Just install on your mobile device the Roku channel. Make a Roku account. Watch Roku content on your mobile device. Can also use your mobile device to cast HBOMAX to your Roku while it is in "litigation hell negotiations" as far as how much royalties Roku will receive to create a real HBOMAX Roku channel. Roku is loosening the belt and branching out beyond hardware at the same time as it creates new hardware. Roku is a serious competitor now. Roku has some deals to produce their own original content in 2021.This is why they need to allow mobile devices to play along. It is all part of the plan.

  21. Hi. Sorry, I did not mean to imply anything was your fault. At the time of my first question to you there wasn't an update available but there was a known issue where the server might not discover the proper IP address for itself. That's why we kept asking if the address shown on the dashboard was correct. You said it was, but must not have understood because it turns out it wasn't. In any case, I'm glad you've got it going now.

  24. okay so as a demonstration of what I'm talking about, I've clicked "scan library files" on an existing library, one that is already populated and working this library has hundreds of sub folders and photos inside. nothing has changed, so I'm not expecting much to happen, but : I started scanning it over an hour ago, and the only thing in the log that relates to this is the "deserialised options.xml" line. I've left it for about 80 minutes and come back to it. there's still no green circle on the library page to indicate progress on the library scan, and there's no further entries in the log. literally nothing. I refreshed the log, and got 2 more lines generated by refreshing the log. I have absolutely no way of knowing what is happening here. is it scanning? has it completed? what is it doing? I decided to instead monitor network file access activity, and sure enough - I can see access taking place to every file and folder in this library, one by one. the scanner is doing its job, recursing through everything, but there is literally nothing in Emby to indicate this, there is no feedback on the dashboard, there is nothing in the log, there is not even anything in the debug log. nothing appears under "activity" or "alerts". like there are so many places this information could be getting shown, yet there is absolutely no indication anywhere that the scanner is scanning. please, I beg you, do something about this. at least give us a working progress indicator on the dashboard or library page, that appears when you start scanning, and remains there until the scan is completed, just like with the full scan. please. the green circle would be enough, if it actually appeared when you clicked scan, and stayed there until completion. entries appearing under "activity" or "alerts" would be nice as well - "scan of XYZ library started", "scan of XYZ library completed". just, something, *anything*, please!

  26. another reason that unlock is still there is because you may have premier on your server, but you don't want someone to use one of your slots when they connect to your server. So you require them to unlock the app which doesn't take up one of your available devices. I just ignore it

  30. Guys with this problem, can you try beta .36 of the Android TV app enabling Pass Direct Path?

  31. Yes, there is good chance that both plugin interfere each other. If you experiment with both plugins, take a FULL backup (including databases etc.) before you try. Maybe a complete reset is required if not working.

  32. Turning off thumbnail generation just stops generation on media that hasn't already been generated. Transcoding happens when the app can't play back the media. This can be due to not supported the video or audio codecs in your files (not compatible with your devices) or can be due to bitrate limit set in the app or the server admin. ASS subs are supported on some clients directly but not all devices can use them. In this case the server has to get involved and this could cause transcoding. Often times you may be able to download a compatible SRT (text base sub) and work around the ASS issue. If it's an image based subtitle format vs text based and the device can't support it then Emby only has once choice and that's to combine the video and image based subs by overlaying (hard coding) them on the video. This requires transcoding. Honestly most transcoding is caused by people not preparing their media for streaming and just wanting to dump lots of files on an HDD drive and expecting magic to happen. That magic is called transcoding and does allow the media to be played back but like any illusion isn't as good as true playback.
