After closing my external video player, it seems to take ~10s for the "Next up" to refresh

Before, when I close my external video player the next up would nearly instantly show the next episode of the show I was watching. Now it seems to take ~10s to refresh.

This seems to have started within the last few days (maybe week?).

I'm using Windows 10.

Do you mean which desktop screen? It doesn't seem to matter.

If you mean like, from the Home screen? Because it's the home screen.

Attached an image. The "Next up" for American Dad is marked as finished after I close my external player, but it's stuck in that state for ~10s.

I prefer to not (permanently) switch to using the internal player.

But I can confirm that the internal player doesn't have the lag (tried by pressing the back button + with letting the video complete).

Hi, are you streaming via HTTP to Theater or using direct play file mode by using the "(Optional) Shared network folder:"?

What external player are you currently using?

I'd like to try and duplicate this.

Can you do a screen shot(s) of you Theater External Video setup for me?

I can't even find a binary release of this player as it was abandoned back in 2017.

What's wrong with the built in player as MPV is very powerful and is highly configurable via config file.

Non-MadVR video rendering tend to produce inferior picture quality. The ability to use my external player that uses MadVR is the main reason why  I continue to actively use Emby over Plex.

Maybe I'm confused.  The video player you are using appears to be this to me:

https://mpc-hc.org/

Is that not the case?

KLite Codec Pack uses the same player, but it packs it with with codecs for better video compatibility, video rendering, etc.

To me it does not look like you are using MadVR at all.
In either case MPV should work as well if not better.

I most definitely am. I've tried MPV and whatever Plex has by default. The picture quality produced by the madVR renderer is definitely better.

Besides that this (bug report) is not about why I should be using the internal player. Emby provides the ability to use External Players. This bug seems to have been recently introduced, and would be great if it can be identified + fixed.

No you're using the other player I linked to which is also included in "Download K-Lite Codec Pack Standard"
Above in your screen shot you are just using the madVR direct show video filter.

I most certainly agree the point of this is to duplicate what you see.  I'm setting things up to match your setup right now.

Can you tell me what version of Theater you're running as well?

Are you manually closing the external app after each episode?

Once I manually close the app, Theater shows me the NEXT UP episode immediately.

Just for testing could you try setting up VLC as an external player and see if you have the same issue?  This will help to see where the issue is.

Yes I do have to manually close MPC after each episode. Issue also present with VLC. Maybe you have to do a few episodes before it starts happening? When I switched to VLC, I noticed the first episode I open + close, the next up episode is immediately refreshed. But after that, it takes ~10s. Then I switched back to MPC and the same thing happened (open a video, close external player, instant fresh. open next up, close external player, not instant refresh).

I notice that if I start the video then immediately close it, it shows the NEXT UP episode immediately.

If I start the video + let it play for like ~5s, close it, then the NEXT UP takes longer to refresh.

Edit: Nevermind it seems to not consistently work like that for me (immediately closing doesn't always show the next up immediately).

this is my server logs.. it does look like a request is made to the NextUp, but that doesn't seem to do anything on my Emby theater? It's only when 10 seconds later (as you can see, at around 45 or 46 second mark) does the NextUp API call finally refresh to show the latest NextUp
