CharleyVarrick 277
Is there a way to correct the sort order of actors (cast & crew) so that main actors appear before supporting cast? An example below: Edited January 17, 2021 by jlr19 clarity 1
PenkethBoy 2063
IIRC its the order on tvdb or tmdb - or the order their api's return them to emby
Solution ebr 14959 Posted January 17, 2021 Solution Share Posted January 17, 2021 Save to nfo and then re-order them inside the nfo and refresh...?

That would work, but I was hoping/expecting to be able do it thru Emby, by itself. Similar to the sort arrows in Library mgmt. EDIT: Being able to sort cast within Emby's edit metadata would be simpler,, faster, more efficient, imho. So this might be considered a feature request. CharleyVarrick 277
Edit metadata of a show, under People. I believe sort arrows would be more useful there than the present recycle bin. Thanks Luke and all. Edited January 17, 2021 by jlr19
Carlo 4331
Or setup like playlists where you can drag an item and reorder it.
Happy2Play 8356
Even if added would provider data end up reordering your modifications as it has sort order or would it just be ignored after initial import? Example 12 Monkeys Spoiler <Actors> <Actor> <id>64014786</id> <Image>actors/376574.jpg</Image> <Name>Aaron Stanford</Name> <Role>James Cole</Role> <SortOrder>1</SortOrder> </Actor> <Actor> <id>64014781</id> <Image>actors/376573.jpg</Image> <Name>Amanda Schull</Name> <Role>Cassandra Railly</Role> <SortOrder>2</SortOrder> </Actor> <Actor> <id>64014801</id> <Image>actors/376577.jpg</Image> <Name>Emily Hampshire</Name> <Role>Jennifer Goines</Role> <SortOrder>3</SortOrder> </Actor> <Actor> <id>64014797</id> <Image>actors/376576.jpg</Image> <Name>Barbara Sukowa</Name> <Role>Katarina Jones</Role> <SortOrder>4</SortOrder> </Actor> <Actor> <id>64014792</id> <Image>actors/376575.jpg</Image> <Name>Kirk Acevedo</Name> <Role>José Ramse</Role> <SortOrder>5</SortOrder> </Actor> <Actor> <id>64014804</id> <Image>actors/376578.jpg</Image> <Name>Todd Stashwick</Name> <Role>Deacon</Role> <SortOrder>6</SortOrder> </Actor> <Actor> <id>64014769</id> <Image>actors/340305.jpg</Image> <Name>Tom Noonan</Name> <Role>Pallid Man</Role> <SortOrder>7</SortOrder> </Actor> <Actor> <id>64014774</id> <Image>actors/340310.jpg</Image> <Name>Noah Bean</Name> <Role>Aaron Marker</Role> <SortOrder>8</SortOrder> </Actor> <Actor> <id>64014810</id> <Image>actors/426607.jpg</Image> <Name>Alisen Down</Name> <Role>Olivia Kirschner</Role> <SortOrder>9</SortOrder> </Actor> <Actor> <id>64014816</id> <Image>actors/491767.jpg</Image> <Name>Brooke Williams</Name> <Role>Hannah</Role> <SortOrder>10</SortOrder> </Actor> <Actor> <id>64014821</id> <Image>actors/491768.jpg</Image> <Name>Andrew Gillies</Name> <Role>Julian Adler</Role> <SortOrder>11</SortOrder> </Actor> <Actor> <id>64014827</id> <Image>actors/491942.jpg</Image> <Name>Demore Barnes</Name> <Role>Marcus Whitley</Role> <SortOrder>12</SortOrder> </Actor> </Actors>

CharleyVarrick 277
Isn't it the reason for this option in editmetadata ?
Luke 37254
Yes exactly. You're just giving up a whole lot by locking the whole thing.
CharleyVarrick 277
I am at wits end trying to fix that specific show. all provider (imdb, tmdb and tvdb) website show correct actor sort order, but for some reason (api?), I still get grandma Florrick's pic first in Emby. Refreshing metadata doesnT fix it. Tried Identify with all data source, no difference. Tried removing serie folder from main tv show folder (and deleting tvshow.nfo), same thing. Tried putting tvdb id# in serie folder name.... no joy. Calling all fellow OCD on that one Edited February 15, 2021 by jlr19

I tried EBR's suggestion to resort actor order in the show's nfo and it did work, so while not the most elegant way to fix it, it now does show main actor before supporting cast. Look before (op) compared to now:

I know this is an old post but I've seen it mentioned a few times so I thought I would give a better solution. I can't imagine why in the world Emby would pull movie data from a TV site before the two movie sites it uses, but that aside, the easy fix is to create an account on tvdb and then edit the cast order there. Then, not only do you fix it for yourself, but for everyone that comes after you.

My Emby server auto updates to the latest release version and for the movie (https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/24740-the-entity) it pulled the cast order from tvdb instead of moviedb or imdb which both had it correct. I refreshed metadata a few times trying to fix a different issue but it wasn't until I edited the order on tvdb that it corrected the cast order

GregMo 21
Now this is interesting. The first image is from the server running on my RPi. The default setting is apparently to use the TVdb on that version as I've done next to nothing in configuration on it. The second image is from my Windows server. It is set to not even use TVdb but it does for cast, at a minimum.
Luke 37254
I would try using the arrows to put tvdb last. Then going forward after that it will be prioritized lower.
