Guest deleteduser0341
I've been using an old machine with an FX-6300 which seems to be close to it's end (barely handles transcoding subtitles without crashing) so I'm thinking of replacing it and could use some advice. Most the content I have can be direct played, however, I'd like it to be able to transcode 1-2 1080p streams. If the step from this to 1x 4K is not too steep, I'll consider that too. I've been considering a few alternatives, and I don't know which one would be ideal: Replacing the server I have with a NAS. I've been looking at something like the DS418. I've never used a NAS before and I don't know how capable these are as servers. Building a new desktop server/replacing individual parts. If I proceed down this route, what kind of hardware would I need for the above requirements? Keeping the machine I have, but as network storage, and running the server from something else (main desktop perhaps, or something new like a SHIELD?). If there are other alternatives which I have missed, please let me know.
Luke 37064
Hi, yes Synology is a great option. @FrostByte may have some advice on that.
