Not sure if this is the same issue or not, but I'll post here instead of starting a new thread. My existing metadata is fine, but Emby is no longer identifying new things I add. I have to manually identify every new title I add to my database. I've never had this problem before. Any time it wouldn't identify properly in the past, it was because of some typo I made. But not anymore. Now it doesn't identify a new title nearly every time. I say nearly, because it did get one last week, but that's the only one in about a month. It has been movie titles and TV episodes. Though the TV episodes got most of the metadata, just no images. Weird. 

 

Currently running Emby version 4.4.2.0

 

All of my movies are organized in folders... i.e. :

G:\Movies\Star Wars (1977)\title00.mkv (or whatever random filename the ripping software gives it)

G:\TV Shows\The Pacific\title00.s1.e1.mkv

G:\TV Shows\The Pacific\title00.s1.e2.mkv

G:\TV Shows\The Pacific\title00.s1.e3.mkv

etc.

Some time between March 28th and March 30th, my Emby stopped automatically identifying movies. Mostly. I chose those dates because I never had a problem with Emby identifying movies up to the one I added on March 28th. The one I added on March 30th didn't Identify properly. Here is what I have added to my collection since March 30th:

 

03/30/20 - Not identified - DVD - A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

04/04/20 - Not identified - DVD - Ad Astra

04/09/20 - Not identified - DVD - All of Me

* Not identified at first, but this was a 2 disc movie. After I spliced the two parts together and re-scanned the library it identified it correctly.

 

I store all of my movies on an external Raid drive (G:). I rip my movies using MakeMKV, and the actual file titles are kind of random. Sometimes it's just "title_00.mkv", sometimes it's got the movie name in it like "21 Bridges_t00.mkv". I just let it pick whatever since Emby just looks at the folder name, not the filename.

 

So I manually input the folder name so it's right. For example:

 

G:\Movies\21 Bridges (2019)\21 Bridges_t00.mkv

G:\Movies\JFK (1991)\JFK- DIRECTOR'S CUT_t00.mkv

G:\Movies\THE_POSTMAN (1997)\THE_POSTMAN (1997)_t00.mkv

G:\Movies\Grosse Pointe Blank\Grosse Pointe Blank_t00.mkv

 

Another issue I had (don't know if it's related or not) was with the TV show "The Pacific" I use the XXXXXXX.s1.e1.mkv notation so that it identifies the episode correctly. And it did identify the episode correctly, but it didn't upload any artwork. Just the generic backdrop picture for The Pacific. And not every episode either. It put in artwork for the last six episodes, but not the first four (it's a 10 part miniseries if you're not familiar with it). Eventually I was able to get artwork for every episode to upload, but it took a lot of deleting the old images and having Emby fetch new ones for each episode.

So in order to get a server log, I deleted all the metadata files pertaining to The Gentlemen and renamed the folder. Then scanned the library to make Emby totally forget about the movie. Then I renamed the folder back to G:\\Movies\The Gentlemen (2020). Then rescanned the library to make Emby try to recognize the "new" folder. I've also attached screen captures of the results.

 

To get Emby to properly recognize the title, I went to Identify and then just typed "the gentlemen" into the name field and the proper title popped right up as the first choice.

 

Emby didn't used to be this way, but do I now need to have the filename match the folder name or something like that? Because I've always just ignored the filename and accepted the default, and never had a problem until now.

 

 

I had also reported this in a new thread (trying to follow the guidelines however poorly) Emby no longer identifying new titles which included this text:

I did the identify thing again only with Goodfellas this time:

 

1) Delete everything from the folder except the mkv file.

2) Rename folder to "the jazz singer" (I don't have that movie in my library)

3) Scan libraries from Emby server

4) Check to see what the "new" movie is, and it has no metadata.

5) Delete everything from the folder again except the mkv file.

6) Rename folder back to "GOODFELLAS (1990)"

7) Scan libraries again

8) Check to see what the "new" movie is, and it has no metadata.

9) Click on the three dots on the movie thumbnail to get more options and select Identify

10) Type "goodfellas" into the name field

11) Select the first suggestion it provides, which is the correct one

12) It's all good now.

Sorry that is the exact same log as before.  I can assume both wrong logs as they only cover 2020-04-26 00:00:00 to 2020-04-26 05:05:31/

@@Luke are we using filename instead of folder name now?

Is there a variable that causes the use of filename over folder name, as my test used folder name?

Here are more logs for you. Renamed "Dragon Ball" to "Dragon Ball (1986)" so that I could apply cover art profile without affecting the rest of them, and now it shows the titles as Z. Even used the tvdb id.

Here are more logs for you. Renamed "Dragon Ball" to "Dragon Ball (1986)" so that I could apply cover art profile without affecting the rest of them, and now it shows the titles as Z. Even used the tvdb id.

 

Log is after series identification, not seeing TVDB used and TMDB does not have the seasons in the same layout, it only has 153 episode in season 1.

 

Don't use the Anime plugin but there would appear to be a issue at the time.

System.IO.IOException: System.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file '/config/cache/anidb/series/1530/series.xml' because it is being used by another process.

Looks like episode image are coming from tvdb.

If you uninstall the anime plugin and try again, how does that compare?

That looks to have fixed it, I unchecked aniDB too for good measure.

 

EDIT, looks to have fixed yugioh as well except for not knowing how to pick between the files for each episode.

I missed the question about library content earlier, but yes my library content is set to Movies. See the attached thumbnail.

 

Also, this just happened again. My new copy of The Hustle just came in and Emby failed to identify it. I've attached the log.

Same as before, but have no idea why your media is being identified by filename instead of folder name.

As a test of you were to add a new movie library using a different folder, how does that compare?

Okay, this morning I added a new movie library (making sure the content was set to movies) called More Movies, in the folder G:\\More Movies

 

I moved my The Hustle (2019) folder over to the new folder, deleted all of the folder contents and renamed it to Slap Shot (1977). I still left the filename as The Hustle_t00.mkv.

 

This is when things start to get weird. As I expected, the movie did not get identified. So I manually identified it by typing "slap shot" into the Title box and the correct movie popped up as the first choice. So I selected it, and let it replace the existing images. Only it didn't replace the existing image or bring in any images for that matter. So I tried again and got the same results.

 

So I went back to the original folder name of The Hustle (2019), and this time it identified it correctly. I was suspicious that it had somehow "remembered" that movie data, and was perhaps getting confused before on the images because even though the folder said Slap Shot, the file was still The Hustle.

 

So I renamed the folder back to Slap Shot (1977), and changed the filename to just t00.mkv. This time it got the metadata right, but still no images. Again thinking that it "remembered" from the first time I identified it, I tried something completely different.

 

This time I chose another movie title that has never been in my library. I renamed the folder inception (2010), and left the filename as t00.mkv. This time the metadata and images all came through on their own. I didn't need to identify it. 

 

So I tried once more with another movie title. I renamed the folder to Extract (2009), and renamed the file to title_00.mkv. And it identified the movie just fine. 

 

So I completely lost now. And one other curiosity, these "new" movies that Emby kept identifying do not show up in the list of Latest Movies on the Emby home screen. The logs are attached.

I have read this whole topic now and as I also have a very similar problem, even more serious, I am almost convinced that EmbyServer 4.4.2.0 contains some bug in the collection scanning section.

 

Perhaps, it would be interesting to know:

 

1. Does Emby use the folder name or the file name to identify the data?

 

2. What is the most suitable format (nomenclature) for the folders and or files to be renamed?

 

3. What is the MOST suitable scraper to use (films and series) and if they are all efficient, what is the best order to leave them, that is, first, second, third, in the priority queue?

 

4. In the settings of the scrapers, I marked for him to get only the cover, logo and icon, but he is also downloading the art.

 

This information is very important, as it is quite frustrating to lose two integers trying to organize a single library and having to redo the same work several times.

From the log I see expected behaviour now, folder name being queried over filename.  So "Slap Shot (1977)" would be the expected identified item.

This is the expected behavior, so at first guess there is either a database or library config change that was causing filename usage.

 

The only time filename useage would/should be used is if you do not put all media in their own folders, then the item name has to be used.
