econ 74
I currently have an HDHR4 using ServerWMC as a backend connection for Live TV to my Media Browser installation. All working great!!! So great that I would like to share with another Media Browser user who is off my network. Currently, the user off my network is able to connect up to my HDHR4, display the channel guide in their installation, record a show from their guide (that actually records on my server and shows the item as recording within my guide), but when they go to play the live TV channels within their media browser the audio/video never come through. If I monitor the HDHR4's tuner status I can see the user changing and tuning to individual channels. I currently have the default port 9080 that serverWMC uses open on my firewall. Is there another port(s) that needs opened for the user off my network to view TV? Anyone else run into this?
krustyreturns 191
So you have two mb servers connected to one serverwmc? I didn't think that would work. The second mbs won't be able to play live streams because they can't get access to your recorded tv folder. Why doesn't your friend just connect to your mbs server using their client of choice, that's the way its is supposed to work. Why run a second mbs? econ 74
Correct, 2 mb servers connected to one serverwmc installation. So you think if I were able to share the recorded tv folder over the web the 2nd user would be able to watch live tv? The main reasons for the 2nd installation of mb is we both have multiple clients connecting to our servers at once and one installation wouldn't be able to handle all the traffic/transcoding. krustyreturns 191
I can't say for sure there won't be other problems, but at a minimum the shared rec tv folder needs to be accessible by the other mbs or you won't get live tv, or playable recordings. I also don't know how you can share this folder over the wan. Serverwmc identifies an mbs client just as 'MediaBrowser', but internally it is tacking on the mbs machine name to this name. So theoretically it should be able to keep them straight, but since I was always assuming there would only be one - I can't say for sure you won't have issues. I am willing to work through them though, so let me know what they are if you get it working. Edited June 30, 2014 by krustyreturns
Luke 37253
well the traffic is no problem. only the transcoding.
