pir8radio 1292
@@softworkz @@Happy2Play I'm going to replace my p4000 with an RTX of some sort, either an Quadro RTX4000 or a desktop version.... I want the quadro due to the unlimited concurrent streams.. but I recall threads talking about a way to remove the concurrent stream limits on the desktop cards... Question is if i do that will emby utilize the unlimited streams, does this work with the RTX's like the RTX 2080 Ti or RTX Titan? From the FFMPEG side of the house, will the RTX cover all of my ENC and DEC needs? additional suggestions? Need to order asap to get here by friday, going to the data center on Sat... want to install it then if possible.. Guest asrequested
The RTX should give you everything you want. Not sure if there are unlocked drivers for them, though. Food for thought....Nvidia will soon be releasing their new stuff. https://www.tomsguide.com/news/rtx-3080

lightsout 144
You can do unlimited streams with RTX with the driver hack. https://github.com/keylase/nvidia-patch/blob/master/win/README.md I did it with a 2060.

I have loaded ten streams with Emby and they were all using nvenc. It's super simple and pretty reliable. You just overwrite two .dll's.

arche 176
Still working for me on emby https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/72170-best-gtx-card-for-transcoding-9-tv-streams/?hl=arche&do=findComment&comment=726370 I'm still using a GTX model, but have had multiple streams with no issues. Yes I am, I actually redid the hack last night because I had upgraded the driver I guess and forgot about it. I'm only running a 1050ti and it does the trick for me. Check out these charts. You can edit them as you like for what you want to be. Really helpful data here. As you will probably see getting a bigger card doesn't always result in way better performance in this area. https://www.elpamsoft.com/?p=Plex-Hardware-Transcoding You want to open that on a desktop. You couldn't have made a better choice, because currently this is our reference for development and testing. You'll like the packaging ;-) What I like is that it demonstrates that the typical "see-how-powerful-I-am" design attitude is just that - a design attitude, but not a necessity. The Qadro RTX4000r takes a single slot only.

Food for thought....Nvidia will soon be releasing their new stuff. https://www.tomsguide.com/news/rtx-3080 Care needs to be taken when choosing GPU models for video acceleration. Video acceleration is not fulfilled by a GPU's 3D capabilities. There are discrete ICs or dedicated on-chip circuits circuits specialized on video encoding and decoding. This is true for Intel, Nvidia and AMD (actually for most others as well).

Emby shows all GPUs it detects and it allows to to select a specific one. What's still missing though is loadbalancing (e.g. selecting another compatible GPU (e.g ''B') when GPU A already has a certain amount of operations running. That's planned for the future, though!

pir8radio 1292
So @@softworkz @ or anyone that knows GPU cards for video processing.. (not me) I have just been looking for the highest CUDA cores and what codex it supported then going with that card... But i see a few things like the RTX 4000 has 2 NVDEC chips? Yet the 2080 TI has more CUDA cores and only 1 NVDEC chip? Whats better for video transcoding? Im stuck with the RTX 4k anyway, which should treat me good, but I would still like to understand.
