Tezza4x4 1
Have been trying to get remote access to my Emby server going. Everything working fine on the local network, and as I read the connectivity instructions, it seems you just need to sign in with Emby Connect on the remote device (IOS). I do this, and my server is listed, but it always says connection failure when I try to connect. Switch back onto the local LAN and it's fine. Do I need to port forward port 8096 and 8920 on my router? The instructions seemed to suggest Emby Connect would handle all the firewall traversal. Luke 37118
Hi, no Emby Connect doesn't circumvent the firewall, so you will still need to open ports. You can learn how to do that in our Connections Guide. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks !
Tezza4x4 1
Thanks Luke, will give it a go. Just the way that guide is written seems to suggest you can "do it all" with Emby Connect for remote access.
Luke 37118
We'll look at improving that. Thanks for the feedback.
Tezza4x4 1
Quick update - yes port forwarding got it all going. Quick related question though, how do I get https on port 8920 working? That is not working at all, not even on the local LAN.
Tezza4x4 1
Nevermind - found it network settings.... and the need to get a cert. QUick question, if I use http remotely are userid and password transmitted in clear?
Luke 37118
QUick question, if I use http remotely are userid and password transmitted in clear? Yes they are, although you use our Emby Connect login feature, then the login happens over https with our server instead.
Server4260 0
Hello all, I'm new to this using an old Dell laptop and QNAP 4 bay TR-004 as storage. Emby connect works great in the network but outside the network I get connection failure on all devices. Port has been forwarded as instructed. I think I do not understand the concept of Emby Connect. I have (Admin) account and created another account and linked it to another Emby Connect account to share with family. All accounts work within the network. What am I doing wrong?

Carlo 4330
Hi @Server4260, Let's forget about Emby Connect to start with. From outside your network (ie from the Internet) using a web browser can you access your server using the the link shown in the web console for "Remote (WAN) access"? You should get a login screen and here you can log directly into your server using the username/password setup for any user (forget about Emby Connect for this). Does that work? If not then remote access isn't setup properly and I'd refer you to our knowledge base article:https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001849007-connectivity There are some troubleshooting steps in that article so if things aren't working let us know what step the problem is on. Regotz 4
For me, Emby connect has never been working. Direct access over port works, but emby connect neither on nvidia shield or apple tv.

Hi @Regotz, I would suggest checking out our Connection Troubleshooter: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001849007-connectivity Please try the steps listed there and let us know which ones succeed and which ones do not. I don't see how it wouldn't unless something on your network is blocking access to Emby Connect server. May need to see a server log. jrwalte 17
I'm finding the same issue but even stranger. Emby connect works on web browser from a remote location. I can also connect through direct IP. But on my Note20 over ATT? Emby connect fails every time. I can log in to connect, I see my server listed but it will never connect. If I manually type the server IP in the Emby app, I can't connect. If I manually type the IP on the phone's web browser, I can't connect either. But if I'm on my local network, the Emby app will work emby server log.txt.txt

It's important to get the colon port there.
jrwalte 17
It might have been ATT blocking 8096. I changed it and now it is working. I can access through web or app.
