GrotShot 28 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I'm confused! I am running server Version 3.0.5271.29451 and have the trailers plugin installed. I also under the "Channels" section have "Enable channel content downloading for:" enabled and I have set a custom directory. I have let the "Download channel content" task run automatically and manually over the last couple of days. So, my question: Why are the trailers and channel trailers available in the web client / MBT and MBC all iTunes streaming content? If I look in the custom download folder I have a sub folder with a name that looks like some sort of GUID and then 70 mp4 files also with names looking like GUIDs. How do I access these downloaded trailers?
Koleckai Silvestri 1151 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 For that downloaded content, they should be viewable when you watch New Movie Trailers in the Trailers Channel. The Trailers channel doesn't have any effect for movies in your collection and will not do anything there. You need to install the Local Trailers plugin. This plugin will stream over downloading.
Koleckai Silvestri 1151 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 There are 98 trailers in the trailer channel & every single one is listed as a QuickTime file not mp4 so therefore not the downloaded files. Apple and Quicktime consider MP4 as a Quicktime file.

ebr 15650 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 When you actually play them do you get buffering pauses?
GrotShot 28 Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 Working away until Monday so will look at it again when back.
manny 13 Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 When you actually play them do you get buffering pauses? Yes I get buffering. I like to play these trailers before a movie using MB Intros. The buffering kills it. Please tell me this will be resolved? As an interim measure I've pointed MB Intros to the folder with some kind of random string (as reported above, looks like a GUID), seems to work but unsure if this folder will remain or be replaced with another later on..... can I expect it to remain? Thanks
ebr 15650 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 If it is buffering, then it is streaming. @@Luke, does the streambuilder or server automatically select the downloaded media source or does the client have to do something here?
ebr 15650 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 manny, if you play these same trailers via the channel (not the folder, but the channel) in MBC, do they buffer?
Luke 40000 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 based on the profile i gave you, the h264 codec profile bitrate limit of 10240000 is going to prevent direct stream, which means it will re-encode. I think that ceiling is based on extender limitations. if you can detect extender session vs. non extender session, then you should raise that value to 20000000 or possibly 30000000 for non-extenders.
ebr 15650 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Ah,okay, so it is probably playing the downloaded one but also re-encoding it.
GrotShot 28 Posted June 16, 2014 Author Posted June 16, 2014 Back home and just checked with MBC 182. I have 2 trailers folders showing on the EHS, one of which has the Apple / curtain icon. The trailers section has 98 items and the Apple trailers has 27 and there are 70 mp4 files in the GUID type folder. The first mp4 is a trailer for Road To Paloma. This is present in both trailer sections and when played, stutters along. When I play the mp4 directly in either WMC or WMP it plays fine. This would indicate to me that it is being streamed via my rather poor 3Meg connection.
ebr 15650 Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 If you go into the Playback config page in MBC and bump the Local Network Max Bitrate up to like 30, does that affect it?
GrotShot 28 Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 No change. I converted the mp4 to a mkv to see if that changed anything but it didn't. However, if I delete the file then the old Trailers doesn't play because the file isn't there and the new trailers channel still does play even with no local file.

ebr 15650 Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 What about the other codec bitrates - do they need to be bumped up too?
ebr 15650 Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 @@GrotShot - try with MBC 185 and see if it is any different. I tested on two trailers - one that had been downloaded and one that had not. The one that had been downloaded did not cause any transcoding on my machine.
Luke 40000 Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 No because they have different meanings. The one in the profile says device only supports up to xxx. The one you're passing in represents network bandwidth. So that's why the profile needs to be changed for non extenders and the new value doesn't need to come from configuration. Just make it a high number
Luke 40000 Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Maybe but They are probably designed for compatibility with extenders. So you have to be careful, And having two profiles might be best

Luke 40000 Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 and in your own topic because it probably doesn't relate to this.
