Sammy 735
My Emby Server has been shakey lately and just the other day the Boot SSD Failed on me. Wont even show up in an external hot swap USB drive enclosure. I am looking to build a new machine. Budget is $500 to $600 and I don't need a GPU as I have a new GTX 1060 6Gb right now so it is MoBo CPU and RAM plus SSD which will be OS only so doesn't need to be high capacity. TIA. Tur0k 143
$500 for CPU, motherboard, and RAM isn’t a bad starting point. I have a few questions: Are you planning on doing hardware transcoding from the Video card? What format are most of your videos? What is the maximum number of synchronous streams would you be supporting? how many would need transcoding? Sammy 735
I'm good with 2 to 4. I do that now mostly with a i5 4690k Devil's Canyon from 2015. Sent from my SM-G960U1 using Tapatalk

Tur0k 143
If you are going to do hardware transcoding then you could go lighter end and few cores/threads. I like the build that @ put together because you have a lot of headroom to expand on hosted services. My home server core hardware looks similar to the hardware he listed just from the 1000 series cpu and 300 series chipset. Sammy 735
Strictly for Emby or will it serve another purpose? What OS?Emby PlayOn (can be resource intensive but has a good "off peak" scheduler) MCEBuddy conversion of recordings to HVEC. Possibly epg123 but it is lightweight. I've always shied away from AMD. I think it's time. MicroCenter has some good deals on CPU MoBo combos running right now. Thanks for the decent on budget suggestions! One thing to note. I need at least 8 SATA ports on the MoBo. I'll look at the spec's on that one and see.. Sent from my SM-G960U1 using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I believe the CPU and MoBo are fine. I may get it running again and put it up on Ebay, case and all.. I love my Silverstone HTPC case for looks but it's a bitch to work in and I have mods to fit all the drives in it, including several SSD's taped in.. Jdiesel 1114
IMO hotswap bays are only necessary in rack mount situations where space and uptime are critical. Not worth the additional costs and hassle for home server use. You are much better off getting a case with adequate space to work in.
arrbee99 1560
Fractal Design R5 has plenty of bays and space, $130 on Amazon might be a bit much ? ASRock do mobo's with 8 built in SATAs. Just got both. Seem good to me though I'm no connoisseur...
