prunhardt 3
Hi, I need your advise on the following. I've set up Emby Connect succesfully to allow watching my video files on my mobile phone while being outside my house My files are are typically sized 1 to 2 Gb each, almost all coded using H264. My 4G connection is fast enough to NOT trigger transcoding based on connection speed. Still I'd like Emby to transcode my files to HEVC/H265 when I watch through a 4G connection, to ensure my mobile data saldo is not consumed too quickly. What can I do to trigger transcoding only when connected through 4G / externally, to reduce the file size? Many thanks. KR Peter
Happy2Play 8296
Currently not available. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/48529-transcode-in-h265/ Emby will get h265 file conversion in 4.3, but don't know how much longer it will take to get transcoding. prunhardt 3
hi peter you can reduce the internet quality under playback settings. Many thanks. Found it. I set the internet quality to 480p - 720kbs which should be good enough for a mobile phone and will test tomorrow how much that reduces the file size / data consumption. Update Nov 8th: with the internet quality set to 480p - 720kbs, the file size is reduction is about 50%, which is not as good as if HEVC transcoding had been supported (typical file size reduction is about 80%), but certainly acceptable for now.
