4K HEVC 10bit on Store version 100% CPU

Hello,

I am a Premiere user and I'm trying to play 4K HDR HEVC files on the Microsoft Store version (Windows 10).

The file is playing fine on "Movies and TV" app, and I have installed the HEVC extensions from Store.

When playing on Emby Theater, the CPU is used, and video will only play 1 or 2 frames per seconds.... When using Movies&TV the GPu is used and it plays fine.

I'm using the store version to be able to download files from server.

Some technical information:

My computer: MSI GS63VR (i7 7700 / HD Graphics 630 / GTX 1060)

Windows 10 Pro up-to-date

Any help is welcome :)

Thanks !

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

Of course this could be a solution, but I like the sync function of the store version (for TV shows for example).

The desktop app doesn't have this feature (just a download button but without any episode/season management). That's why I'm trying to use the store version...

Regards,

Well, in your screen shot it's direct playing. But I suspect there's an issue with that. When this happens, is there an ffmpeg log, made?

If the question was related to the server side, I don't see anything related to ffmpeg on the logs. I only see HTTP requests to "stream.mkv" URL.

Is there a way to have some logs client-side ?

Curious, because that cpu could actually decode that video. So there must be something else happening. Post the server log so these guys can take a look.

Hello,

There is no ffmpeg log on the server and I don't see any ffmpeg using CPU when playing the file..

But the issue is the same if the file was downloaded and played locally (through the Emby Theater app), so I think that it could be something related to hardware decoding on the client side ?

Thanks,

I have a pretty similar system to OP (8th Gen i7, GTX1070) and the Windows Store app insists on transcoding all HEVC.

I suspect it's transcoding, even if it says it isn't.

It's not transcoding. There's no transcode log, and it were, the color would be bad. It doesn't appear to be dropping frames, so that would suggest something is happening with the rendering.

Hello,

The problem is the same without subtitles.

I definitely think that this is related to the rendering (as the problem is the same with a downloaded file playing locally).

The image is not rendered properly in fact, as seen in my capture.

PS: the downloaded file plays fine in "Movies & TV" from the Store

Thanks !

According to the server log you provided, there was trnascoding activity. Can you please try to create the problem again, then attach all log files that were modified during that time? Thanks.

Hello,

Here are all the logs present on the server for this:

- Server startup

- Starting playback

- Stopping playback

- Stopping server

There is no traces of any ffmpeg transcoding, and no transcoding process with high CPU usage (I don't have any hardware transcoding on my server)

Thanks !

Hello,

I still have this issue, and I am not able to direct-play HEVC file on this laptop.

I've just tried the last stable and last beta release of the docker container, and the issue is the same.

The file plays correctly in "Movies & TV" from Microsoft.

Is there a way to help to find a solution to this issue ?

Thanks !

Right now we're a bit limited by the stock windows video player, but we're working on a major update to the app that will allow us to embed a custom player with more capabilities.
