nebulade 0
Hi all, this is my first post here. Didn't know where exactly to reach out, but I came to let everyone know that some time ago I've added an app package to Cloudron https://cloudron.io/store/media.emby.cloudronapp.html Reason was mostly personal for the time being, since I am an avid Emby Premiere user myself and also one of the founders of Cloudron, so given that I needed Emby anyways to run well on my personal Cloudron, it made sense to properly package it. I don't really know if this is in the interest of the Emby devs, however I would be very happy if I could bring up some topics how the Emby package for Cloudron should be setup by default from your perspective, since you are the experts on your software anyways. Also if you find our software useful, don't hesitate to let me know and I will make sure you get a free license. First question would be very basic, but I wasn't sure how exactly "Emby" is correctly spelled (uppercase, camelcase, ...) just asking since some communities are quite strict about that. Luke 37113
Hi Johannes, This is great, thanks for doing this! Curious, how did you do it? Is it wrapping one of our existing packages?
Luke 37113
Yes we can help advise on packaging. Also, I notice this is based on the beta release. Would it make more sense to use stable? Please note 4.3 stable will be available very soon.
nebulade 0
Hi Luke, thanks for the prompt reply. The package files are located at https://git.cloudron.io/cloudron/emby-app and it is based on .deb packages where only the .postinst hooks need to be disabled as well as a few minor changes to work within the read-only fs nature of Cloudron apps. Otherwise it was one of the easier apps to package. The reason it is on beta releases again so far is more of a personal thing, since I required a fix which is not part of the stable packages yet. Once 4.3 is out we will hop onto that, at which point we will also promote it a bit for our users. Currently that package also references your public screenshots at https://emby.media/resources/ which is not ideal and maybe even violating your terms. Just letting you know that this is temporary. If you have any good screenshots I am allowed to put into the package, I will happily use those. One big question coming up from some of our beta users is, how to get content into the app. So far we expose the data directories via sftp, but that is not always the preferred option and a bit geeky for some. Are there any plans to add a way to upload content via the html interface? Also possibly I am missing something obvious, but I am not using any of the other clients besides Android on-the-go. Luke 37113
Hi, if you're just packaging Emby Server then it's OK to use those images. Thanks for your offer and also for doing this! Regarding upload, yes it's not a bad idea, although we generally focus our efforts on media consumption and management.
nebulade 0
Hi, just wanted to follow up here asking if it is possible to get listed at https://emby.media/download.html in the Emby Server section? Ever since we started packaging it, we kept the app updated usually within the same day of the upstream release, unless our CI finds some regression with the app package. The link target would be https://cloudron.io/store/media.emby.cloudronapp.html I've also made two icons, put into this post, maybe one of them could work. Luke 37113
@nebulade I'll look at adding this to the emby download page. Thanks !
