Sammy 738
My Asus Router has the option to secure it with https. Before pulling the trigger to do this, is there anything of which I need to be aware for my Emby Server when doing this? TIA

rbjtech 4287
.. and personally I would not recommend you do this unless you have a good reason to need to login to your router from the internet.

You can still use https in an internal network
Sammy 738
So this merely secures the session when I access my router via the app on my phone but has nothing to do with Emby being accessible via port forwarding? I do access my router occasionally as I'm away more than I'm home. So how to better secure Emby?

So how to better secure Emby? well you’ll have to describe exactly what the option says, but having changed the security setting on my own router (pfsense) so I only access the console via https and have no external access, I would say that’s what the option is for
rbjtech 4287
hes not asking about exposing his router to the internet. You can still use https in an internal network "I do access my router occasionally as I'm away more than I'm home." ..so yes he is then .. So if he is asking should he turn on https to do this - then absolutely yes as I presume he is current using http only. Do I recommend doing this - no, but as he appears to have a valid reason for doing so - then it is certainly is better option than his previous configuration. PrincessClevage 173
If it s just access for your devices the have a looks at one of these and use VPN https://firewalla.com
Spaceboy 2494
Back to the original question. Securing access to your router by only allowing https and allowing external access are two completely separate and distinct options. The former can be done without the latter. My personal recommendation would be to enable https but not expose your router to the internet. If you really want to access your router remotely then I would suggest using a vpn between your mobile device and your home network. Fratopolis 62
You can use your Asus routers lets encrypt certificate and apply it to your EMBY installation so you can enable HTTPS to your EMBY installation for more secure access. I did that before, I eventually just bought a domain that came with a 1 year cert for like 12 bucks. Enabling that feature in your router should have no impact on your EMBY remote access if you enable this in your router. But you can double the use of that acquired certificate for EMBY's security! My Asus Router has the option to secure it with https. Before pulling the trigger to do this, is there anything of which I need to be aware for my Emby Server when doing this?
