Okay, so for anyone that comes across this in the future:

for Spectrum Routers

I went into "Access Control" then went to the "DMZ" tab I click "Enable"

that gave me a drop down. I selected the name of the computer my server is installed on

click apply

I was then able to access the server remotely.

Admins please correct me if I am wrong but the troubleshooting guide did not include anything on DMZ settings. You may want to add that in.

Thank you for trying to help.

Nope. What you have done is effectively moved your computer from your internal network to the internet. All unsolicited traffic from the internet will be routed to that device.

Nobody should do this and especially people who don't know what they are doing.

Okay thought this was solved but it was a band-aid

I have a spectrum router

i can not connect to it remotely

i tried to update the port forwarding. and it did not help

canyouseme.com  can in fact NOT see me

the only way i can connect remotely is by Enabling DMZ in my router, which is unsafe

the fire wall on my computer is not the issue I completely shut it off to test if that was the issue, i still could not connect.

Can someone please give me an idea on what else i can try?

@@paulson121591, I've merged your new topic into here as it will be easier for everyone involved to help you in once place since this contains all of the previous back story. Thanks !

The IP address on the Emby server should be static (manually assigned) or reserved (via DHCP reservation on the router/gateway) so that the mapping doesn't change. The port forwarding you posted before looked OK, IPs were hidden. Was the internal IP also selected from a list, same as with the DMZ config?

If the DMZ option worked then the port forwarding might not be quite right. I would almost rule out firewall on the server because the DMZ worked.

As discussed in a PM I am able to connect to @@qlinyear WAN/port address and get to the login page, so I really have no clue why they can't connect to their WAN/port.  From work I would have to guess and say possibly the work network is blocking that port traffic.  But from home there should be no issue that I can really think of, unless they have multiple networks on their LAN.

Some routers don't allow NAT loopback connections.

no it was not a drop down however the "internal host" is the same IP as the IP form the DMZ settings..

is it safe to post my ip? i know thats probably a dumb question

also the IP is reserved

What is the model of router?

Many have reported disabling the Windows firewall has no effect.  What inbound firewall rules do you have for private and public networks for Embyserver.exe and port 8096?

You are better off working in a PM if you want someone to assist with WAN address.  But I see the one you had in previous post fails on port checker sites.

Ok, I hate to ask this but have you tried rebooting the router after the port forwarding change?

Not good practice to post IP.

I would say no, and leave it disabled.

Is automatic port mapping disabled in Emby? It should be off.

Is UPnP disabled on the router? Should also be off.

Are you still trying canyouseeme to test it?

yeah no change.

Hmm, I just checked port "80" which i believe should work and i also got it can not see me.. is that normal?

Q-Droid

It's normal for port 80 to fail from the WAN side. All ports should fail from WAN except the ones explicitly mapped to LAN via forwarding.

Well then I feel defeated. I have now clue where to go from here. Admins are gone. I've tinkered with almost every single setting on my router. the only thing that works is put my server PC into the DMZ.which is a bad idea I guess.. 2 days is just too much time to make this little progress. I just feel like i wasted $4 dollars and 2 days.

Q-Droid

I'm out of ideas too. If the router WAN IP matches canyouseeme and the Emby detected external IP then I don't know what else to check. Everything else appears to be right.

Go get some free tacos so you can break even on the $4.

Okay ready for this?

I put an "external IP" into  the port forwarding, I was not supposed to.

It was that simple

An external IP? So what does that port forwarding rule look like now?

Are you saying you were manually entered your WAN address and router did not do it automatically?

An external IP? So what does that port forwarding rule look like now?

see below i think this should clear it up

Are you saying you were manually entered your WAN address and router did not do it automatically?

yes this is correct

Sorry let me update this to be as clear as possible. I hope I can help some one in the future

On my router options I have a few boxes I can fill in

1."Custom service name"

2."Service"

3."Protocol"

4."External host"

5"External Port"

6."Internal host"

7."Internal Port"

as shown here...

5d9b42d4793c0_2019100709_48_40StrokesPlu

So... the way i filled it out the first time was incorrect. I entered the "Remote access  IP"  that i got from the Emby dashboard into the "external IP" this was just a dumb mistake.

see below for the CORRECT way to fill it out IF you have this router or something like it

5d9b452b961c7_2019100709_57_23StrokesPlu

as you can see External host should be blank. I believe this is the correct way to have it

AGAIN if anyone sees an issue with this please correct me

also...

If you come across this in the future please DO NOT take my earlier advice of putting your server into a DMZ

I don't know how to delete a post but I would if I could.

Hope this helps someone!

Thanks for everyone's help
