clollar 2
I recently installed a GTX 1050 in my server which was previously without a GPU, I was using quicksync (i5 4690k). Now the only option in my encoder and decoders is NVEDEC. What gives?

Guest asrequested
You need an HDMI plugged into you motherboard to activate the GPU and enable quicksync
clollar 2
Must it have a monitor plugged in?
Luke 37132
Hi there, have you gone through the setup requirements in our hardware acceleration wiki, and made sure that your system and hardware are supported?
clollar 2
I just did. I have a i5 4690k, GTX 1050, 16gb DDR3 ram, Windows 10 and fiber internet so I'm good.
Luke 37132
And what else?
clollar 2
Not sure I understand the question. Clients? An Nvidia shield, and a couple Rokus. My transcoding needs are practically non existent at the moment since most things direct stream to the shield and I'm not accessing my server out of network, yet. But I do intend to stream outside my network and perhaps share my server with a couple people. Just thought once I installed the GPU I'd have the option for the GPU or the IGPU for transcoding. I had intentions of using the GTX 1050 for streaming to twitch and the i5 for transcoding, all in the same box.
Luke 37132
What else does the setup wiki say to make sure to do?

Is suggests to download the latest drivers from the intel website, Trying now. FYI I did plug in a monitor last night to no avail. Any ETA on headless mode? Luke 37132
Any ETA on headless mode? No ETA, sorry, although we're going as fast as we can. Thanks.
clollar 2
I went to go download the graphics driver and it said my system doesn't meet the requirements. After a little research I think going to my bios and enabling the intel grahpics should fix it. I'll let you know.

clollar 2
Got it! No drivers, just had to enable multi monitor IGPU option in the bios. Question, correct me if I'm wrong but there's no need for a monitor or monitor dummy plug for the GPU right? Just the IGPU/integrated mobo graphics, correct? My server normally goes in a storage/mechanical room in my basement. I am ordering the monitor dummy plug, in the mean time I have plugged in ONLY the IGPU to a monitor on my desk (shared with my main gaming PC). I restarted the server and the Quicksync options are still there so I think I'm good. Thank you so much for the help.
clollar 2
FYI, for the heck of it I thought I would unplug all the monitors and reset the server and see if the Quicksync option appeared anyway, and it does. I wanted to double check that I needed the dummy monitor plug before I ordered it. I do see one option is missing under decoders, where as before I had 2 quicksync options and a DX11VA Intel HD grahpics, now theres only one option saying quicksync under mpeg-2, vc-1, h.264. So do I need the dummy plug? I guess that depends on the format of the file being transcoded?
Guest asrequested
I would buy the dummy plug anyway. They are so cheap, and then you'll be sure it will always work. If for some reason your BIOS resets. And no, the Nvidia GPU does not need to connected to anything.
