Frequent audio cutouts on Chromecast Audio

Operating system: Fedora 29

Server version: 4.1.1.0

Emby mobile version: 3.0.59

Cast devices: Computer with Google Chrome 75.0.3770.100 and Android phone with OS version 5.1.1

Wifi connection: 802.11n up to 300Mbps

Since there is not a separate section for Chromecast devices, I decided to create this topic here because I'm using the server on Linux.

As you may know, the Chromecast Audio device supports only audio streams with up to 96Khz/24bit, which means, 192Khz streams get transcoded by the server to AAC 96Khz. So far so good.

The problem is, I'm getting frequent silence cutouts of about half a second through playback of 24 bit FLAC songs, regardless of their resolution. 16 bit FLACs are not having this issue.

here are two samples recorded with my phone's mic:

A 192Khz song transcoded to AAC 96Khz, the cutout is present at 00:22 seconds:

A 96Khz song played directly, the cutout is present at 01:11 seconds and 01:21 seconds:

The Chromecast audio is a few inches away from the WiFi and there isn't any kind of interference that may lead to the issue I'm having.

The computer is connected directly to the modem/router through ethernet.

I don't think the WiFi is not capable of handling the size of those audio streams.

Are you still seeing this?

I'm not "seeing" but still listening to this issue everyday  :D

Does the 4.2 release impact this at all? Thanks.

Unfortunately yes, I've been testing this for about an hour and I've heard at least one hiccup in some songs so far.

One hiccup in how many songs?

Oh, I don't know, I've been doing a homework for my job and I just noticed two in one song and one in others but I don't know exactly, like 5 out of 15 maybe.

To me the problem could be Linux but I'm not able to test this with the server installed on Windows for now, so I'll let you know someday when I finally test this to confirm. Thank you anyway for your attention.

I wasn't able to test this under Windows 10 until today, the cutouts are still present but less frequent than on Fedora.
