FireTV stick subtitle bug

Recently noticed something weird happening, and the only place I can reproduce it is with the FireTV stick my parents have.

I noticed because last week my mom was watching a movie, and after quitting half way and getting back to the movie the day after, she complained about the subtitles no longer being in sync.

At first I thought it was probably the file, but after looking into it on Emby Theater on my PC, I noticed the SRT matched the movie just fine.

Thinking it was a fluke and mom having already watched the movie I didn't bother looking into it any further.

However yesterday evening dad went for a rewatch of Django Unchained, and half way through the movie he made the escape of shutting down the Fire TV Stick.

After turning it back on and resume watching Djanog Unchained, his subtitles where out of sync as well.

I started Django Unchained on my phone (android app) going through the same process my dad had been, quitting around the same time, going back in, but it worked fine, subs were in perfect sync.

Knowing that I switched the subtitles on his TV to English (movie loaded for a second, and English subtitles appeared and were in Sync) and then back to Dutch but that didnt help and the Dutch subtitles stayed out of Sync for the rest of the movie somehow.

Seems to only happen on Fire TV (stick) and only when you use the resume watching function after interupting a movie at some point.

Are the subtitles actually in sync with the video? The problem could just be in the subtitle timings, right?

I believe it all works if he plays from the beginning so they have to be.  It goes out of whack when he seeks.

Is it possible this is related to any timestamp manipulation we may be doing on the server end while transcoding?

No the subs were fine when I played them on the android app (my phone).

And before using continue watching option the next day, they are also in sync on Fire TV stick.

Just going out of sync when you quit watching halfway through the movie on 19 February, and say you come back to Emby on Fire TV Stick on 20 February and select continue watching, the subs are no longer in sync with the audio.

I Could try doing chapter selection tonight or tomorrow, see if that gives the same problem?

Also, if it is possible for you to try the beta version of the app and see if it makes a difference that would be great.

Amazon makes it a bit difficult so you have to be sure you have your account setup as outlined in that article.

Thanks.

Yes that would be helpful, thanks.

Ok just tried a couple of things, first of just skipping forward 30 seconds at a time, doing this "gently" keeps they subtitles fine.

Holding it down however after just 5 minutes it already gives a few seconds delay on the subtitles.

Scene selection did work once, but 2 times the subtitles went out of sync as well.

The weirdest thing however is stopping the movie and then continuing after having restarted the app:

2 times the subtitles were out of sync, and not by what seemed a second or so.

1 time the subs completely vanished, no way to get them back (scene select forward/backward, skipping forward or backward, selecting other subtitles than back, nothing helped).

In all of the cases, when selecting other subtitles (English mainly, tried Turkish at some point as a test which is somewhat useless since I couldnt read it, but it seemed in sync xD) it loads them and puts them in sync with the movie, unfortunately switching back to Dutch loads the Dutch subs out of sync once again.

Only chance to fix it is quitting the movie, restarting it and selecting the correct chapter (doesn't always work but sometimes it does).

I will try and look into this but if I can test it, it might take a while.

The device isn't mine, and the amazon account is my mom's (I think)

Latest server beta .0.11 , android app on firestick latest stable. Same sub issues, if there is muti version movie with external srt subs subs dont show, or they sometimes show on initial start but they are way out of sync. Subs show and work normal on windows emby teather, no issues there.

Also noticed (on andorind app) information display is not consistent when you go to movies and point on movie info is displayed without resoultion in info row, enter movie resolution display is show, go back out of movie to movies table dislay and than you see resoltion info in row. Exit app try again same thing happens, no resoltion info in row until you enter into movie. I m not sure is in latest beta improve row refreshing fix for this or not.

This is to be expected.  We do not retrieve all of the detailed information for display in lists.

Cheers for fixing subs issue, i m on stable app hopefully there will be a rls soon.

As for info, it makes more sense to me see if movie is 1080/720p/4k right on browsing rather than go into every movie and see what resolutions are available.

I've been meaning to report this for a long time and was surprised no one else had raised this before.

From my experience, it happens to both built-in subtitles and external ones too.

I'll give the beta version a try, thanks.
