Im using the desktop app, got a emby prem. Subscription.

Whats the audio pass through settings for?

My win10 media Center is connected directly via HDMI to my Samsung k950 soundbar which seems to be able to decode pretty much all modern surround sound formats.

Should I enable audio pass through for pretty much everything in Emby theatre?

Your answering this from the context of what HDMI pass through means with AV amps and soundbars.

Im asking about audio pass through settings on the emby theatre (desktop), should I enable or not?

If you're using a sound bar, it really doesn't matter. mpv will just decode the audio, instead. Is the sound bar Atmos enabled? And I don't mean can it decode Atmos. If not, just configure your windows audio, choose your speaker layout in Theater, and sit back and enjoy.

Yes my Samsung k950 soundbar supports Dolby atmos. I have the windows 10 official Dolby atmos app/driver installed (it installs off the windows 10 app store), i also have sharks latest advanced codec pack (32bit & 64bit) installed and set to recommended settings to cover all the codecs.

Hope that's all the extra info you need.

So to get lovely surround sound, atmos or older formats included, should I tick all the Audio passthrough buttons in emby theatre or not?

Do you have upward facing speakers?

Ok, I just saw that you posted your sound bar model. It has Atmos enabled speakers. Then yes, enable audio passthrough. And you will get your 'lovely surround sound, atmos or older formats included'.

"Do you have upward facing facing speakers"

Yes that is what a Dolby atmos system is. My Samsung K950 is a full Dolby atmos Soundbar.

Also should I set in emby theatre my speaker setup to 5.1 or 7.1?

And you'll want to take a look at this for speaker placement

Having Atmos support and having enabled speakers aren't the same.

The speaker setup is only if you aren't bitstreaming. That tells mpv what config you have and also needs to be the same as windows audio. But you're bitstreaming, so you're sound bar will do all the work.

But if you intend listening to music, then you'll need to configure your speaker setup selection.

Yep the Samsung K950 is a Dolby Atmos supporting 5.1.4 speaker setup according to Dolbys site: https://www.dolby.com/us/en/guide/speaker-setup-guides/5.1.4-dolby-atmos-enabled-speaker-setup-guide.html

Whats 'mpv'?

Ok i've ticked all the audio pass-through tick boxes in Emby theatre, i'll have to see how it goes playing surround sound formats.

Another side question, does Emby playback videos using the codecs you install on Windows 10, so in my case will use all the Shark advanced codec pack i've got installed?

or is Emby like VLC player where it has all the codecs built into the app so uses its own internal codes for playback?

I wish there were short surround sound testing videos just playing beeps to all the speakers you can download or on YouTube, just for testing proposes.

mpv is the player that Theater uses. It's built on ffmpeg, so it can pretty much do whatever you want it to. No other codec packs are needed, or can be used. It is entirely self contained.
