murky024 1
So I was watching Linus Techtips and they had an episode of getting old mining cards working with onboard display with a driver hack. Making it almost as effective as a 1060 in certain cases. Well that also had me thinking, has anyone here thought about or purchased used mining cards for encoding/decoding purposes for Emby? https://shop.tbfocus.com/item.php?id=554770906053 For <$80 it seems like a reasonable option assuming it would work for that purpose and Emby would see the P106 drivers (without having to use the hack)... PhinkBig 9
I looked into ordering one, but they don't allow Paypal payment on that item for whatever reason. Would be curious to see results if anyone gave it a try.
murky024 1
I thought about ordering one but the best card my PC can fit in a 1050ti low profile. I bought a HP 8300 SFF that I use to casually game and run my local Emby services.
Marc_G 92
These days you can get a used Dell Optiplex or HP EliteDesk/ProDesk SFF that can fit a boot SSD plus two 3.5" HDDs, based on an i5-6600 with 8GB RAM, for $250 (plus cost of storage drives). I spent considerably more than that to set up my Emby server PC a few years ago based on that same i5-6600. It doubles as my HTPC. For most folks with modest needs, no need for fancy graphic card solutions. But I'm always intrigued by doing cool stuff with used equipment... thanks for posting the link! lightsout 144
Probably more work than its worth to worry about the hack. But you can still get mining cards pretty cheap, ones actually used for mining. I was eyeballing an RX 580 8gb for $100 today.
