Dashboard Unresponsive on Tablet

I'm running Emby for Android version 3.0.30 on a Galaxy Tab A 10.5 (2018), and the server 4.0.0.1 beta. I've opened the mobile app and selected Manage Server, the dashboard is displayed and is functional/updates as it should. However, when I try to scroll down the left side, the screen goes dark as if there is some kind of overlay (there's no message or anything) and the dashboard then won't respond. If I tap on something the overlay disappears and the dashboard is responsive again. It happens intermittently and is quite annoying, I realise it may be a dodgy description of what's happening so I have a video I can PM to Emby developers if needed.

I've had it at work today and it's been every now and then. Now I'm back at home and on my internal network it's happening constantly to the point of being unusable. I realise this is an odd correlation but it's very noticeable.

I've just tested at home on home WiFi, then set up a hotspot on my phone and connected to the hotspot instead, then removed my home WiFi from the tablet. I tested a local user login with easy pin and it failed (as I'd expect), so logged in using my Emby Connect credentials, so I'm effectively working remotely.

 

There is a noticeable difference when connected to home WiFi vs connected to the hotspot.

I too have been experiencing the same issue on my new TAB4 tablet which I only bought last week.

It's a bit annoying as I have to close the app and start again.

@@Luke this is still happening on my tablet and it's getting very annoying, mainly because quite often even if I work around it by pressing the screen, the items on the left section just don't respond to subsequent presses at all. I appreciate you may not be able to reproduce it yourself but it's definitely happening and I have multiple videos showing it.

 

Is there anything in any logs I can look at to get to the bottom of this? The main reason for buying this tablet was Emby playback and management, the latter is almost impossible at the moment.

Does this happen with the web app? Does the whole app freeze?

I just tested with the Web app and after swiping out the left hand menu nothing happens when I touch any item in the list and the server is completely unresponsive. So this is worse than my experience with the android app which can still respond after waiting a few seconds before selecting another item in the slide out menu.

I'm away from my tablet at the moment so will have to check this after work. @@rikiwi which version of Android and the Emby app are you running?

Sorry this has taken so long, no this doesn't happen at all on the web app in my testing, everything works as it should for me (Chrome)

Hi @@Luke, just discovered that this exact same behaviour also happens on my phone (Galaxy S9+, Android 8.0.0, Emby 3.0.29) but only in landscape mode, never in portrait (where the layout is then changed with categories on the left instead of along the bottom).

 

I would guess that if I tried portrait mode on the tablet that this wouldn't happen? Haven't used the tablet in portrait yet, will try tomorrow.

I just saw this post and sure enough, turning my tablet into portrait mode the app suffers no response problems. I never normally view it this way as it is usually attached the the keyboard cover. :)

When is this going to get fixed? It's been nearly 8 months since I reported this on version 3.0.3 and it's still happening now on 3.0.68 (released 31/07/2019)

You have seen it because I've sent you videos of it happening, along with other users reporting the same behaviour. Please can this be investigated because it renders the dashboard useless, which is a core component of Emby.
