maegibbons 1267
Hi Guys Anybody running a Fire TV 4k with Samsung Telly? Works great with Amazon Prime UHD content BUT cannot get emby to talk 4k. When I try to play some downloaded UHD 4k content the Sammy stays in HD mode and emby says it is Transcoding because of Unsupported Container. ebr 14964
Other than audio (if directly connected), the TV shouldn't impact the video capability. Is the Fire set to 4K resolution? What is the container? ffmpeg log?
maegibbons 1267
Ok Sent app logs at 14:22 Server and ffmpeg logs here. Fire TV Display is set to "Auto (up to 4k Ultra HD)" It appears that the remux is down to Audio although stats for nerds give video as the issue. Emby app set to downmix to stereo. If I play this file on MI Box or Fire TV stick 4k on different HD (not 4k) Tellys it direct plays!!! maegibbons 1267
Fire OS 5.2.6.7 - Updated last Friday I believe Krs Mark
ebr 14964
No, the Android version. I believe it shows you that as well...
maegibbons 1267
According to wiki it is a fork of android 5.1.1. Krs Mark Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk

maegibbons 1267
Hi @@ebr .64 now allows HEVC files to Direct/I play so a step in the right direction. BUT it does NOT kick the Fire TV in to 4k output. It appears that the Fire TV when displaying home screen menus etc natively talk to the TV at 1080p. Other apps such as prime and netflix then KICK the fire in to UHD (2160) at the time of playback. Emby does NOT appear to do this. I am surprised that you have not come across this before with trying to run HEVC on Fire TV which of course is what it is designed to do. ebr 14964
I'm pretty sure others have reported this working but, perhaps, they are on the new generation which is on Android 6 or 7.
maegibbons 1267
Hi Well where do we go from here? This is a Gen2 Fire 4K which is pretty common. The other apps seem to change mode before playback. Emby does not. These files play fine on the shield. Krs Mark
ebr 14964
The app doesn't give you the option for auto refresh rate switching, correct?
maegibbons 1267
Correct. No Option to rate switch. Krs Mark
ebr 14964
Yeah, that version of Android doesn't support it. I'm surprised the auto detect on the Fire isn't working though. Can you try a different HDMI port on the TV? Also is it all 4k content or just some?
maegibbons 1267
its all 4k content FROM EMBY that is only 1080 All 4k content from OTHER apps works fine so its NOT HDMI related. The other apps seem to force the Fire in to 4k mode prior to playback. Krs Mark
maegibbons 1267
@@ebr I think you need to read this: https://developer.amazon.com/docs/fire-tv/4k-apis-for-hdmi-mode-switch.html Krs Mark Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
ebr 14964
Yeah, I figured they had to have some sort of hack to support that in 21. Thx.
