naf623 10 Posted October 20, 2018 Share Posted October 20, 2018 Especially TV episodes. For years I've been using a program called The Renamer, and its been fantastic. Unfortunately theTVDB recently updated their API, and it appears that The Renamer is no longer kept up to date (I've tried contacting the developer). It can still use IMDB, but that's not great for TV and especially special episodes. Does anyone have other utilities which scrape files and rename them according to my chosen convention? I just started using filebot and it looks like its doing a good job of properly identifying multiple recordings that did not get recognized when originally recorded. atomicmoon 141 Posted December 10, 2018 Share Posted December 10, 2018 I use Filebot 4.7.9 (last free version, I plan on purchasing someday to support) and have it run after Qbtorrent completes downloading. Makes a copy to allow seeding the original, and moves the newly renamed copy to it's proper folder and pulls down the artwork and .nfo. RobWayBro 27 Posted December 10, 2018 Share Posted December 10, 2018 I do it for a couple reasons, I do like the organized file system but also I have had zero issues with anything; scanning, playing, unable to locate media, in Emby and I suspect any media server software out there would give me no issues. Since I already took the time to rename my collection, keeping up with it as I add media is simple and not very time consuming. Kinda curious Exactly for this reason. At lot of the media I obtain has scene names attached and sometimes even the title is missing. This just insures that scrapers aren't being asked to identify a puzzle of a title, and so that I can search through Windows and find the items without needing to remember what l33t group released the media. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Emby has a particular file naming convention that it looks for when identifying files. You can't guarantee that a downloaded file is automatically friendly to that convention; and certainly if you ripped the files yourself, the ripping software would have no clue at all what the file should be called. That is because so far I haven't had any problems with Emby picking up any of my files and I do not rename them, only transfer to the folders that are set up for emby. So since the majority of my downloads (actually everything so far) are named at least good enough to be recognized properly by Emby, I have had no use so far. Also if I encounter one or two in the future I am able to change the name without software, and no ripping so not a problem either. Therefor the question isn't all that silly, knowing what RobWayBro & atomicmoon mentioned, and also the information you just mentioned is important for me. It helps me estimate whether I can benefit from this, if it is worth the trouble etc. Because if I could prevent serious trouble, or prevent wasting my energy on future "problems" it's worth considering. To do so I need to get more information, and therefor I asked what different reasons people have to use it. Better to avoid problems than to solve them later on PS: Thanks all for the reply's!
