Copying library from old version to new

Hi all. Sorry if this is a newbie question. I’ve been running Emby 3.2.60.0 for some time very successfully on my Qnap TS453a. However when I’ve tried to log into the server as usual on my laptops and iPad, I’ve been getting a warning that there is a newer version of Emby avaialble, and my links to the set up and configuration pages seem to be broken (although the server still works). It been making it hard for me to rescan my library folders (which I have quite a few broken down into movie genres), when I add new movies.

So I though I’d take a look at the new version and installed the latest version on the qnap (version 3.5.3.0), but when I run that it doesn’t pick up any of my previous folders and it looks like a brand new Emby installation. My question (eventually) is there anyway to bring all the data and folders across from my version 3.2.60.0 to the newer 3.5.3.0) without having to recreate all the media folders again ?

Once again sorry if this is a newbie question.

Not sure if you did the same thing i did that did this to me a long time ago When you updated to the new version did you remove the server or shutdown the server? If you removed it which is what i did the first time then i had to reset everything and so will you but if you stopped the server then installed the new version it would have updated everything then after installing the new version only had to restart the server. if you did just stop it and restart it then when it hung up on me i learned it required restarting the NAS itself as well I have the 653A myself same as yours just 2 extra drives. After you get everything setup the way you want it suggest under plugins you install the system backup configuration plugin and use it has saved my butt a few times. Then just have to restore your settings.

the plugin is the Backup & Restore plugin go to your dashboard and down at the bottom of the tree on the left you will see the plugins hope this helps. Plus PengkethBoy has essentially the same setup if i remember correctly and he is way more advanced than me I think I spelled his name right. He will probably popin with more info.

Thanks Chaps. Wangbo - just for info, I didn't (thankfully) delete the old Emby server from the Qnap, just stopped it running before I ran the new version (3.5.3.0), so both are still there, and I've currently reverted back to the older version (as below)

Hmm...wonder if Penkethboy is near me (as I'm in Penketh Warrington) ?

Err, guys, don't know if I am doing this wrong or not. I installed the "backup and Restore" plug in on Emby 3.2.60.0. Created a folder called "Emby Backup" and set the save path to this folder on the Nas. Clicked "Save" and I got the requester "settings saved". However under the "Current Backups" there is nothing listed (I thought it would show the actual back up file - or is it a hidden file.) ?

In any case, I stopped Emby 3.2.60.0 and started Emby Server 3.5.3.0 and installed the "Backup and Restore" plugin on that side as well. However I can't for the life of me see how you restore and browse to the back up created in step one above ? Any ideas please ?

On your 3.2 install it sounds like you configured the backup settings. Now you need to actually run it to create a backup. There should be a button on the config screen to do that, although it might not be in your older version. But you can also go to the scheduled tasks area, find the backup scheduled task, and run that task manually. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

I've done that, and I think I was a bit impatient as after 10 minutes or so, I did see new hidden folders for the backup. But I can't work out how to "force" Emby 3.5.3.0 to use the backed up library settings from 3.2.60.0.

When I run the backup plug in again on 3.5.3.0, it doesn't ask me if I want to install from a previous backup but rather just creates a backup of it's own ?

go to the plug in and under save you will see the saved backups click on the text title of the update you want to restore it should then present you with the restore menu not the icon or the trash can It took me awhile to figure it out myself the first time as we are conditioned to click on icons to activate things. Hope that helps

Brilliant - many thanks it worked. The only thing it didn't being across were my collections. The individual box set movies are there, just not grouped into collections,  but then I had to do that manually last time so no big issue really.

Your gonna laugh when i tell you this but there is a plugin called Auto Box Sets that will do that for you at least according to movies and shows that are related will still have to do according to personal choices if that is how you have yours arranged but at least will do most of the work for you. Enjoy
