mweis 0
Hey together, my actual hardware profile looks like... - Fractal Node 304 - ASUS Q87t mini-itx-board (4xSATA onboard, PCIE-x4 1x ) - Dell Notebook-PowerSupply130w - Intel i3-4130 - 2x4gb so-Dimm DDR3 - 240gb sata-m2-ssd - 4x4TB WD-RED - Openmediavault 4 / SnapRaid - emby-server via docker now i am running out of disk space and the main problem is the mainboard only has 4 sata plugs so the question is if i should upgrade the whole system. my content is growing since 4k is getting more available. i only have one client-device which is a nvidia shield which is used via emby client app. my network is 1GB/s via cable. so max is 1 4k stream. so my question is, should i upgrade to a system like core i3-8xxx or should i stay with the main-system and just replace the hard drives? what benefits do i get from hardware-encoding through the new cpu-igpu? or should i get an additional gpu like 1050ti? thank u Edited August 21, 2018 by mweis
mastrmind11 717
Do you need to transcode? If not, that CPU is fine. Similarly if you don't need to transcode, then the gpu hardware acceleration is not necessary. the 1050ti will only do 2 streams anyway. If I were you, and again assuming you don't need a ton of transcoding, I would just build another NAS type device with as many HDDs as you foresee needing, and throw it on the network. If you need to transcode, then that's an entirely different discussion.
SHSPVR 119
If you only have one client-device that is using direct steam and no mobile device then there is no point in upgrade that CPU as that whole point on fly hardware-encoding
naeonline 27
The Node 304 holds 6 drives right? Just get a pcie -> 2x sata card and use that to add additional drives.
legallink 187
Or move to the node 804 (that’s what I have) and add an lsi Sata port replicator. I’ve got 10 drives and only 5 sata ports on board
mweis 0
the main thing is, i have 2 cores / 4 threads with this cpu. i am running the virtualbox with windows 7 in it and the 1 core / 2 threads i can give to virtual box is a bit weak :/
