External Player passing the filename for subtitle search?

So right now if I choose to play in external player, it only recognize it as 'stream', makes it impossible to easily search for subtitle in MX Player. Is it possible for it to pass the filename to MX Player so it can search subtitle properly? Thanks

Mainly to get the subtitle download options, sometimes I want to watch movie in bed without sound so I don't wake my SO

Maybe not a complete solution, but you could bring up the web app on your phone and grab subs (or set the server to automatically download them).

Use the Subtitle Download scheduled task in the server and then they should always be there, if available, and you can turn on/off at your whim.

 

Or if this was available, then a quick refresh may suffice.
