Offline library viewer?

Problem:

I have been trying to find a solution for me to view my Emby library when the server is offline.

Since my htpc is the only unit using my media library (aprox. 14Tb) it feels redundant to setup an NAS / dedicated emby server, and therefore its on my htpc.

My plan is using an Raspberry pi for this “metadata viewer” that i can connect to via some Android app or something. Is there anything like this already developed?

I dont really know which way to go and solve this?

  • Setup an extra Emby server on the pi and duplicate everything via automatic sync somehow and use Emby Connect on that server?
  • Some kind of SQL thingy? (i have no idea what it is, just something about databases)
  • As i understand Trakt.tv only syncs “showed status” on the actual item ive watch, and not showing me what else in my library i havent seen yet?
  • Are there any “metadata manager”- program i can use that can sync from my Emby server?
  • Any online service capabel of doing this for me?

Is this even doable?

TL;DR:

Basicly i want a copy of my Emby library metadata that always are synced so i can view when the server is offline. Not just a straight list of all the items, but a nice library view with all the metadata avaliable from the Emby server, but not in need of touching the actual media files. Using an raspberry pi or an online service to hold the metadata.

How do i do this?

Server Setup:

Windows 10

Latest build

On local HTPC (Kodi as front)

Why not use the Pi as your Emby Server and just leave it powered up full time?

If you don't want to do what mastermind suggests, you could potentially use a Kodi installation with our plug-in I think...  @@Angelblue05 shut me up if I'm off-base.

You would lose most, if not all, transcoding functionality as the Pi is not powerful enough to reliably handle it.  You would have to have all media in universally-playable formats and bitrates.  Even then, the server can often crash if it's overwhelmed.

This is based on my own experiences.  I'm sure others have had different experiences.  Your mileage may vary.

I get that, but since it seems as though he's direct playing based on his current setup, transcoding likely wouldn't be a problem.

I did use a Pi in the beginning as server, with a smaller library, but it did not work well for me. Too unreliable.

Sure, i can try to migrate my server to a Raspberry Pi again, Odroid xu4 or something else. But it just feels ridiculously unnecessarily since its only one computer using the library, and i have no plans on streaming to other devices.

Couldn't you already use the reports plugin to export your library list to excel?
