bardmaster 17
Hi, I can't seem to get theme music to play via the Roku Beta app. I followed the instructions at https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Theme-songs-&-videos and downloaded theme music for Stranger Things (I used instamp3.net), renamed to "theme.mp3" and rescanned the library. The theme music plays fine in the web client, but will not play in Roku. Any advice? Thanks! As a side-note, Plex seems to have this built into their server so theme music is added automatically along with all the metadata, posters, and backgrounds. It's very nice and would be an awesome addition for Emby if possible! Edited May 14, 2017 by bardmaster
Luke 37098
We support theme music but you have to provide it. Perhaps eventually we will also build downloading themes into the server core but for now a community member is providing the capability, for a fee. The real issue is that, even after creating the "theme.mp3" which plays fine in the web client, it will not play in the Roku beta.

speechles 1920
Reference: Issue #220: Theme Music support. No time frame is known, but this is something rather easy to support. The only issue is when music is playing the Roku cannot mix these like a PC can. The audio player has to play music or theme music, not both at the same time. Obviously logic has to be there to know the difference. If the ID changes the theme music should change. Episodes use their seriesID. This way navigate from a series into a season and into an episode view if it is all the same series the same theme music would keeping playing without interruption or restart. We can look at getting this included soon. Thanks for reminding us it is missing and bringing it up. Edited February 5, 2019 by speechles

bardmaster 17
Hi team! I see now there's an option in the Roku Beta (v. 3.0.151) to "Play Theme Music." Great! I'm playing with it now - the volume for my initial MP3s was way too loud (Game of Thrones got my dog to barking like crazy, thinking our house had just been bombed or something) so I'm going around and reducing them now. Is there any consideration for eventually adding the MP3 as part of the automatic metadata download for the show? This is what Plex does somehow, at least for TV shows, though I'm not certain where they get their content (it was tricky for me to go out and find appropriate theme music soundbytes on the internet for everything). speechles 1920
There are alot of these on Usenet. Depending on your newsgroup provider and access to the alt.binaries section of usenet and how many days of retention they offer. Most are up to 8 years+ which means chances are great that you can find them there. You would need an NZB provider also unless you want the hassle of downloading and sorting all the usenet headers yourself. Depends on how you want to download them. Usenet would be the best way. Usenet is not a website. Some people think it is and sign up for these types of websites. Website = http. News = nntp. News providers like Easynews, Giganews, etc and a news reader client that supports NZB (I suggest xnews) are all you need. If you only download from usenet you are OK even on your own IP address. There is no copyright violations doing this. Conversely anything DMCA'd to the news provider will be taken down off their spooling. So what you find on Giganews may not be on Easynews and etc. Usually takedowns are submitted to the entire usenet spooling community to get it down everywhere but there are corners of usenet where things are crossposted. Those crossposts are not taken down. They only target certain alt.binaries groups with takedowns you see. So use this as advice and stop searching websites for these poor quality recordings. Use a "pay" usenet server that offers NZB search support. These do cost money and they are worth every penny. xiosensei 22
does this include support for music videos playing in the background? because It does not seem it is working for me. I have it set in a folder 'backdrops'. Works well on the web application. Not on Roku.

speechles 1920
does this include support for music videos playing in the background? because It does not seem it is working for me. I have it set in a folder 'backdrops'. Works well on the web application. Not on Roku. This might be tricky to do on Roku as we get a single video player. But it might be possible to use the video player as the background without causing disruption. The video player loves to throw up the retrieving bar and make you wait until its loaded to give you video. But there may be ways to suppress that by layering a black rectangle at 1920x1080 with visibility=true over the video player layer which is under the navigation layer. Then once we know the video has started to play change the black rectangle to visibility=false. This will certainly take time. It will also take awhile for this to actually get priority. There are so many other things missing in the Roku app that take precendence to supporting third party plugins. I am sure you understand. But we will get there. This is possible.
