Vizio Smart TV app...

I've brought this up before, and I know Luke said something about issues with getting something in their catalog. But how much interest is there in a Vizio app? Their still a pretty popular TV.... maybe make a sub form and gauge interest?

The Vizio DLNA is stupid(and broken in Emby ATM anyway), it screws up AR on many videos, so it forced me to run a PLEX server (yuk) JUST for my Vizio tv.

As far as moving forward with an app, I'm willing to do what I can. I'll throw my TV up for testing. I know nothing about Vizio's system, but I do  program and develop some. So, I offer my limited services.

I just use the Google's built into one Vizio tv and Roku devices on the others. Don't really need a built in app.

Google's? I hadn't found anything on the Vizio that could work well with my Emby.... What am I missing?

Was supposed to be Google Cast. My tablet is a crappy Kindle Fire and it changed it. I didn't notice the change.

My main Vizio TV has Google Cast built into it. No Apps. No Tuner. Just a monitor on the wall with Google Cast. I can cast just about everything I need to from my iPhone. Including Emby. Only services that I haven't been able to cast so far are iTunes and Amazon Prime Video. I can't get over the air television where I live so not worried about a tuner. It is this television - https://www.vizio.com/tvs/e70e3.html

Got ya now! ;)

I've got a Chrome Cast hooked up to my Vizio, was on my old TV before I got my Roku TV in the bedroom. Used to have issues casting to it so haven't tried it again yet. I got a new router (Nighthawk) and I'm thinking that will solve my buffering issues, so next time I'll try to cast from my phone to the CC on the Vizio, see how it does.

Think my issue was the way CC cast stuff. It had to bounce around the network too much and I think my old router couldn't handle it. The Nighthawk should be able to. I'm hoping. Would rather cast from Emby.

As a side note, I was a huge Kodi user, but those casting issues ended up being the entire reason I got Emby to begin with!!! LOL. Now I don't user Kodi at all, just Emby.

Going out today to pick up another Vizio.  They might not the the best of the best out there, but i support them 100%.  TV prices stayed HIGH when HD came out to the market, yes i bought a $2000 Sony CRT HDTV.  Had to roll it into the house.  When Vizio came into the market, the others had no choice but to stop gouging people.  For that reason alone i support them.

Other than my 3D TV, the rest are all Vizio.  A little disappointed that i see the other guys have a app available, hope i can cast emby to it (wife is just gonna shake her head at me), but will just have to hook up the Roku to this new one if needed.

But yah i would be interested....

We know a lot of people have them, I guess the question really is, how many people who use EMBY have them?

The thing that gets me is there's a PLEX app. I run a PLEX server beside my EMBY server JUST for the Vizio. I just hate seeing PLEX somewhere EMBY isn't. I think EMBY is the superior media server. So much so that I became a lifetime supporter just after I got it, not because I wanted (or use really) any of the features, but just because I BELIEVED in what they were doing. But due to that, I want it to work on ANYTHING and EVERYTHING I buy... and I want it NOW!!!!!! LOL j/k

But yeah, would still love to see an Emby Vizio app. Might bring in a lot of new users as well........

I have vizio's all through my house. Since the beginning I have hated having to hang a laptop off each tv to use Emby Theater. I have been considering switching back to plex since the support is there on Vizio, but like Doonze said.. I believe in what Emby is doing and the passion they have for their app.  I do hope sooner rather than later that a Emby VIA App is brought to life..

is there anyway of integrating the emby interface with a vizio TV or through Dish DLNA?

I have it running through my hopper / joey but it is using Dish interface and is seriously ugly with no controls besides stop/play etc function it will not store anything to Resume if cut off also

I don't google on mine it is preloaded with Yahoo

Dlna may work.

I gave this a shot on my older Vizio set... No luck.  It sees the server, but is much to slow to actually play anything.

It may be different on newer sets.

Tried got nothing at all not even a read my bedroom is older vizio and living room is newer smart. Spending lots of time searching and nothing documented so not sure whats next because it will play to my devices out of all I have tried where others would not being I am using hopper/joeys to pass through Plex would not work or any of the other brands.

Also had other issues I went back restored Win10 to original state started fresh.

Keeps dropping movies randomly missing near 40 now, Rotten Tomatoes quit working also.

No network issues or permission issues kind of at a loss and the remote when using DLNA from phone or PC to play to TVs 1-2 have never worked

Another thing that has never worked is RESUME stop a movie etc might as well dig back through to find it FF back to where you were if you can even remember

Have fastest net in state it is true 24.7 uptime not had downtime once 100mbps basic pack.

2-devices hopper / joey on 2 vizios

Thanks for the info. Looks like an app is the best approach.

10-4

Will fresh reset Windows start from there only takes a couple of minutes on my end and go from there.

You're referring to windows app? Because on my Galaxy's I have used play store

Might be a day or so before feedback my work season starts tomorrow

I mean in order to run on Vizio.

Yes I understood I just prefer to flash back fresh if trying to sort anything out like this eliminates any confusion and only takes a couple minutes at most for me to refresh my Windows 10 to stock off a backup through AOMEI excellent backup tool by far over windows built in but in other thread I have figured best to do the Roku or device method than dealing with the throughput in DISH

I have a Vizio M-series smart TV. I normally use a Roku 3 with Emby because my entire media library is on my Emby server. After reading this topic today, I looked at the built-in apps on my Vizio just out of curiosity. There is a Multimedia App that can identify DLNA-compatible devices on the local network. It found my Emby server. I tried to play a live TV channel, not expecting it to work. It DID work (on both live and recorded TV)! HOWEVER, the interface is very clunky, it has trouble navigating through the folders on the Emby server, and it has none of the advanced features that make Emby such a great app. It would definitely be nice to have an Emby App for Vizio smart TVs.

I can imagine it lacks memory to support media serving my bedroom Vizio is older with not even a USB port on it I have 60+" in living room just using a USB drive to play 2 episodes of tv show was rough even reading the media, I can imagine the interface is about half wit like running through a hopper but the dish shows the meta art, I have never even bothered to look at any of the specs on them.

Not even tried DNLA just went and bought some Roku Premiere +'s bedroom works perfect I think the CPU on living room toasted on power up waiting on order to come in wallyworld about all I have to choose from well for device such as Roku it is all I have for over a hour drive

I have always bought Vizio as well good TVs think I went through 5-6 60inchers before getting one that actually worked but that was wally purchased not surprising big back ache by end of the day lol

Can this be looked into again?

Smartcast on the Visio TV is the old Chromecast, not the Ultra version, so it won't direct play x265.

The Samsung app is terrific at playing everything.
