lordvader 2
Hi all. I have Version 3.0.8500.0 installed (Linux version), and I am no longer able to see it as a DLNA server on any of my devices (Oppo BDP-95, Viera ST TV, or my Android phone). This used to work (though I haven't tried it in a while).Other DLNA servers work fine, however, so not sure what's going on, and not sure how to debug this, given DLNA discovery is clients detecting a UDP packet (such is my understanding of the protocol). Steps on how to proceed will be much appreciated.

I too am having this problem with my emby server installed on my Qnap TS228. When can we expect next version release? elpirate 5
Can't offer a date, sorry, but hopefully not too much longer. Thanks Luke for the fast response.Out of curiosity, will shows watched via DLNA have their watched status tracked like they do using the Emby app or KODI add on? Also, what are the chances of upgrading the DLNA features of Emby in a future build to allow for more customisation of the presentation to client devices in a similar or ultimately the same way that it can be using Serviio DLNA server app? Cheers Edited December 9, 2016 by elpirate
Luke 37133
Right now it depends on the features of the Dlna device. For most newer devices, yes, watch status is tracked. For others there is still a little more we have to do to support it. What kind of customization would you like to see?

For others there is still a little more we have to do to support it. What kind of customization would you like to see? Thanks again for the speedy response Luke. I will have to wait and see if myTelstra TBox device will facilitate the watched status once I can use DLNA in the new version. Serviio has ultimate presentation options, you can customise how the client sees the folders or if it see all TV shows, Movies grouped together, can have a recently added folder, recently viewed folder, recently added unviewed folder, all for each content category if you want (movies, TV shows, music, photos etc). There are many other options as well as what I have mentioned. I will post a full list and some screenshots of the Serviio presentation options screen when I get home later on tonight. Thanks Luke Edited December 10, 2016 by elpirate
Luke 37133
We actually already create those types of virtual folders with Dlna, so if anything, the customization would be to turn them off.
elpirate 5
We actually already create those types of virtual folders with Dlna, so if anything, the customization would be to turn them off. Yeah I'm aware that there are some of the listed options available but I'm not sure it's as detailed. I am only going by what I have seen in the settings screen of emby DLNA at this point though and am new to this feature with Emby. Being able to turn off presentation features has great merit, especially for users who only want to see particular content in a certain way. I'll post what Serviio can do later on so you see what I mean exactly. Many regard Serviio as one of if not the best DLNA server because of this and if Emby could do virtually the same, combined with its watched status tracking across multiple platforms (Serviio also tracks watched status regardless of client device I believe) and the already brilliant multi platform compatability, features and presentation of Emby then Serviio's DLNA mantle will be overtaken. I'm not sue how much you guys value DLNA though as client apps seem to be the dominant method of server streaming these days. Cheers
elpirate 5
We actually already create those types of virtual folders with Dlna, so if anything, the customization would be to turn them off. Well see attached screen shot of how the presentation of the DLNA server can be customized. There are 3 options for each of the folders / views: 1. Display Category: Displays the category as a folder 2. Display content only: Displays the content but not in a folder I believe 3. Disable: Does not display the category content or folder Serviio is pretty lengthy in its customization and perhaps its a little over the top, however, Note the categories I display for my Videos particularly. This allows me to easily browse recently added items that are watched, recently added items unwatched and recently items that have been watched regardless of when they were added. I can also browse the folders I have set up easily as well. It would be great if Emby could have a similar feature to customize the DLNA presentation. Luke 37133
We actually display all of the ones you've enabled by default except for Last View, and then the photo categories on the right. So I think in general you'd probably be happy with our defaults except for photo libraries, which we could always extend. I do think those options are very nice and it could be a possibility for the future.
lordvader 2
Hi @@lordvader, this is resolved for the next release of emby server. Thanks ! Indeed it was resolved in the next release - emby does appear as a DLNA server. However, my Oppo still cannot browse it. lordvader 2
So the Oppo BDP-95 presents a list of DLNA servers. When browsing, it should show the list of folders/items/whatever. Instead, when attempting to browse emby, the player shows the message : "Server Error: Please ensure that your server allows the player to access your library". This used to work in an older version of emby, so don't know why this stopped working.
Luke 37133
Since I do not have an oppo for testing I'm not sure either. Unless there's an obvious error in the emby server log then that would be one thing. But chances are there is no actual error but rather something coming out of the response that the oppo just doesn't like. The only way to find the answer to that is just trial and error. lordvader 2
Progress ! Emby was reporting an IP associated with a VPN, along with the internal IPs. However, now all the lists are empty when trying to browse to content. The emby folders are there (such as Latest, Resume, Series ...), but they are all empty. 2017-01-05 10:08:58.8422 Info HttpServer: HTTP POST http://192.168.1.30:8096/dlna/66fa1c55d27f4365a88395bbaba8291e/contentdirectory/control.
