Exile82 6
Hi guys. I am quite new to Emby, but I really like it so far (so I bought premium sub). However, I come from Kodi (still use it) and all my media was contained in rar libraries (not compressed). Since Emby don't support this, I had to make a big effort to unpack these, and also unpack new content. Unfortunately, this is not enough time get all the benefits of Emby, since most of the media is in ISO format. Emby does not probe ISOs with for instance resume state. In my case I need to lay may hands, once again, on my media, which makes it quite cumbersome to deal with. So, my humble question is: is it possible to probe ISOs with resume state (or a work around where resume state is stored in the nfo, for instance). Best choice of solution for me personally (and I guess many others) is to implement support for rar libraries, obviously. But I have learned that this is not going to happen. Please, share your thoughts.
CBers 6771
Not an answer about RAR libraries, but couldn't you just convert your ISOs to MKVs ?? http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/15195/convert-dvds-and-iso-files-to-mkv-with-makemkv/ Just a thought. PS. I tidied your duplicated posts
Exile82 6
Hi CBers. Thanks for your input. I can of course use MakeMKV and manually convert my media. But this is a pretty vast job to do, considering about 200 movies and 500+ episodes of TV series. Above this, I need to maintain all new media. Since Emby is a quite intelligent software, my idea is rather to allow ISOs for resume state ( or better yet, allow rar libraries). I know that I am far from alone with this dilemma, so I know that this feature will be much appreciated. Deathsquirrel 741
I know that I am far from alone with this dilemma, so I know that this feature will be much appreciated. The perception, right or wrong, is that you're not actually far from alone and that the number of ISO users is decreasing steadily over time. That's not to say this can't or won't happen, but I'd really look at starting that conversion to MKV. For movies it's really, REALLY easy. For TV it is a royal pain. I know, been there. edit--just to elaborate on the TV discs, the manufacturers don't necessarily put the tracks in order on disc and the shows don't all have titles shown during the episode so they can be hard to identify. That said, once the chore is done I'm so very glad to be able to browse my shows in a consistent UI. DVD menus are frequently dreadful. Exile82 6
Hi, and thanks for your feedback. Well, I won't argue with you, a perception obviously depends on perspective, and I come from a community, pretty huge, that still use rar libraries. As I said, it is possible to do this manually, of course. But it is free to ask for a feature that makes this step automated/unnecessary. As is, there are already a lot of steps to make a media library compatible with Emby. I am just asking to consider a simpler way. Exile82 6
Okay, any thoughts from developers? I would be grateful just for a consideration...
Spaceboy 2494
Honestly I'd start ripping those iso's. if you're expecting movement within 2 days you won't be content with the priority this will be given. Exile82 6
Yes, you and Deathsquirrel keep telling me that (and I appreciate your input). This is just a request for a feature, I just want to have it considered. We'll see, maybe I just skip the "resume state" functionality instead. Ran some batch tests yesterday with poor result. Vidman 589
As has been stated repeatedly, iso format is dying/dead so I don't see any developers wanting to put too many resources into supporting or adding features for the format
Exile82 6
Okay, I will not make this to debate. I don't see the uprising of ISO format as THE format either, but I am very certain that we have to live with ISO for many years to come. Well, I can almost say that I know that. With that being said, I will back of from this request now. You have your conviction and I have another. d00zah 128
@@Exile82, you might consider MakeMKV Batch Converter: http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6556 in conjunction with MakeMKV, although there are similar options in the same forum. I used it back when my library was ~800 .ISOs & it was relatively painless. Just queued up a block of conversions & ran a script to create discrete folders/move MKVs. Since I had YAMMM installed, I let it properly rename (mostly) the folders/content & voila, job done. The only major issue I had was with an English-only profile for MakeMKV, I ended up with some Chinese movies with no audio tracks. Just something to watch for. Exile82 6
Hi d00zah! Thanks for the tip, I have had a look on the MakeMKV for batches, also Movies2MKV. Did really think I could convert the ISOs so that they match the filename, but that can of course be poor settings on my behalf. For the time being, I don't think it is worth it just to make Resume state working. I have enough things on my plate for the moment! But as I said, I really appreciate the tip! jdpg2 8
The dropping of ISO mounting/resume/transcoding support from the server is the reason i left Emby and i had been with them since the early media browser days. I don't believe ISOs are going anywhere , well in the near future, and I believe not supporting mounting and transcoding from the server is short sided.

I fully respect the "management's" decision to exclude ISO support. But if you put the time for maintenance aside, I don't really understand the arguments presented.I have been in the business long enough to be quite sure of that ISOs will stick by for the foreseeable future. But again, I do respect the decision to exclude that feature. But I also see this as a great backdraw
Angelblue05 4130
ISO isn't supported by most player apps. It's a "great drawback" across the whole board, not just with Emby. Luke 37112
Yea the more you stick with ISO as your primary format, the more your options are going to be limited. If there was an easy cross-platform ISO examination tool that we could integrate, then we would but I'm not currently aware of any.

Angelblue05 4130
What I'd like to see in Emby is a way to manually add a runtime value for those formats, including strm files. This would eliminate the problem at the source, which is, no runtime = no resume point, no played percentage. But could emby add an "extra" txt file, containing such information, which could be extracted when needed? That wouldn't solve transcoding features, but however a step forward. Do you know how the guys at Kodi solves ISOs or uncompressed rar libraries? I guess that since it is open source, there should be work arounds?! Angelblue05 4130
It could just be part of an nfo file, and read when the format is not supported by the ffmpeg probe. No, I don't know how Kodi supports ISO or RAR. Edited November 6, 2016 by Angelblue05
funwithmedia 352
There are now some additional feature requests that touch on what is being asked for in this thread, one with a manual option, and the other involves using VLC as an External Player and pulling resume time from that (though currently it doesn't look like one will necessarily be able to automatically resume via VLC, but at least the process of getting the resume time could potentially be automated): https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/43209-fr-option-for-external-players-to-prompt-for-stop-time/ https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/43235-idea-vlc-plugin-for-easier-resume-when-using-vlc-as-external-player-in-emby-theater/
