External/Internal Subtitles and Secondary Audio

I had a setup that worked well for a very long time, and now, suddenly, my subtitles and secondary audio stopped working.

I have external subtitles for most of my stuff, internal on a few items, and secondary audio on one show in particular.

I tried to uninstall my codecs and Emby / WMC programs and reload them to see if that worked, and it did, for one night.  This morning, everything's broken again.  I have tried going back through the different tutorials again to try to get stuff working, and everything appears to be set correctly...  can someone help me?

I'm using FFDShow and LAV filters with xs vd-filter .bat addon and Direct VobSub on a windows 7 HTPC with Emby for WMC using MCERemote Plus.  I also have GameBrowser and some emulators set up, but my Microsoft controllers no longer work either, an issue I'm not sure is related.

What SHOULD a working setup look like?  Why isn't MCERemote Plus working anymore?  I didn't update anything, and I have it set to never update Win7, so I don't know why it broke in the first place, but I'm getting -really- frustrated.

Have you thought about making the jump to Emby Theater?

As time goes on, more and more of this type of legacy stuff is going to stop working because the people who built it will not be working on it anymore.

I think Ebr is referring to all those other old, external tools like ffdshow, mceremote plus, etc. The user trying to put all these different pieces together just to play video files and showing frustration over it. It is only natural to offer something like Emby Theater that would combine all of those into one and not have to depend on any external software.

...so the response is "Use this thing that doesn't do everything you want it to".  Nice.  Thanks.

Emby Theater doesn't work right with Gamebrowser, and to my knowledge doesn't launch Netflix, Hulu, or some of the other internet channel based stuff that I've been using for a long time (This Old House, for one).

...for that matter, I didn't see an option to swap audio streams while I was playing with it either.

Then again, I'm already paying for Emby Supporter to keep my Gamebrowser running, maybe I should stop throwing that $3 a month and just be glad I didn't buy the lifetime a year ago.

...is there anybody with maybe some .jpgs of what a working setup looks like in LAV?  Maybe some tips on using the tweaker that might answer my issue?

No, I simply asked if you had considered if that solution would work for you.  If not, then that's okay but these types of issues are probably going to continue to crop up with WMC in general because support for it is all but nonexistent.

We have done, I think, an incredible job of continuing to support it as a platform way beyond what anyone else has and we are trying to continue to do so.  However, a lot of this stuff (including these items you are having issues with) are completely outside of our control.  So, it will probably require some extra work and help from other community members to figure out.

Hi! The in-video OSD has an audio icon to switch tracks. if you haven't seen the OSD, just move the mouse during playback, or press the down button on your remote control. Enjoy.

I understand and I apologize that we don't have these features yet. We are focusing our efforts on features inside the app right now, not ways to get out :) There will come a time when we can do something like this.

...the frustrating thing is that it just randomly broke, and I had it working.  Theoretically, unless my files became corrupted or there was a stealth update that I didn't manage to turn off, that shouldn't happen.

However, I found the third guide on htpc.com that I couldn't find through these forums and figured out that a couple of my merits were set to use unknown decoders.  Setting all the video to use Microsoft or Merit, and all the Audio formats to use Audio with Win7Decoder Tweaker has the internal and external subtitles working by default again.

MCERemote Plus is still not working to switch audio and toggle subtitles, though, but that seems to be a more localised problem.

Correction - it's working for everything but MP4 videos.  *headdesk*  Forcing MP4s to use LAV Video via the tweaker fixed that, too.

NOW.  Anybody know of a remote control tool for toggling subs and secondary audio that runs on the LAV filters?  MCERemote Plus just uses the DirectVobSub or FFDShow, which I didn't end up using, I don't think.

Uninstalled xs vsfilter and installed vsfilter (directvobsub) instead x64 and x86.  Now it will toggle subtitles, but it will NOT toggle secondary audio.

...Ah well.  I'm out of ideas.

If it's only one show why not remove the audio tracks you don't want and leave the one you do? If they are mkv it won't take long. I don't know how you ever had it setup before. You couldn't have been using Lav. You had to have been using ffdshow
