580guy 4
I have seen various posts about trouble with external players in Emby for WMC. Namely TMT5, 6 and PowerDVD. I use both TMT5 and PowerDVD12 to play DVD's and Blu-Ray discs. I have found 3 windows updates (so far) for Windows Media Center that, if installed, will cripple the launching of these external players in Emby for WMC. They are: KB3108669 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3108669 KB3150220 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3150220 KB3087918 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3087918 They are listed as Security updates for Windows Media Center, however, it has been my experience that installing these updates will break launching these external players. I have uninstalled and hidden these updates from appearing again and it has restored my external player functionality. I hope this helps others that may be struggling with this problem.

580guy 4
Well, Microsoft to the rescue! Now we have rollups to install instead of individual patches. It's all or none now for us Win7 guys, just like Win10. I guess our only choice is to not update Win7 any more, lest we risk breaking WMC. I have been researching, but there doesn't seem a way around rollups. I am afraid to install one for fear it will install the above patches which will kill my external player functionality in Emby. I know for certain that the above patches are verbotten if you want to use external players with Emby. MS is just making it harder and harder to stay on Win7. I have no interest in Win10. But apparently that's not acceptable to Microsoft!
Teddy 51
580guy I agree all your words. Windows 7 has support until 2020 and meanwhile I await for similar good O.S as Windows 7, maybe Windows 11 or 12 , if not I don´t discard to migrate any Linux version. I think Microsoft walks everytime to something worse as Windows 8 or 10. Edited November 14, 2016 by Teddy
