yet another variant of server unreachable.

So... this all used to work and I didn't change anything, but after a power outage I'm getting different behavior with kodi.

The setup:

Emby is on machine 192.168.0.118:8096

Kodi is on machine 192.168.0.111

I use a VPN on the same machine Emby is on (and have for a couple years +)

Haven't had a problem with Kodi connecting, but since the power outage Kodi won't connect when the VPN is active. However the Emby machine and it's shares are still on the LAN and Kodi can play content as per normal, though status obviously doesn't update.

If I disconnect the VPN, in a minute or so Kodi finds Emby and starts to sync. All understandable to a limited way with route table changes associated with the VPN, but not why this wasn't a problem yesterday, and is now....

Since the VPN has never been a problem before I'm not sure what the problem could be or where to start looking. The VPN is necessary for other processes running on that PC so can't be disabled entirely.

Any suggestions on how to get things back to working or why a power outage (which I've had several of over the year all has worked) would cause a problem?

Do you use https on port 8096? It's just complaining that your server is unreachable. Nothing else out of the ordinary in your log. Can you reach your server via a browser on another computer (other than where Emby is located?)

Thanks @@Angelblue05 for taking a look. I didn't see anything in the log that would be helpful, but thought I'd post it anyway.

To answer the question, yes server was reachable via browser, files could be reached via explorer, etc. and https is disabled. playback is set to direct.

I did figure out a fix though I'm not sure why the solution works. Setting the VPN network as private and thereby also setting file and print sharing to on got the addon to find the server again. So I'm guessing the addon uses different network protocol to 'find' the server than it does for directly playing content?

In your kodi log, you had https enabled in the addon to reach your server... I'm guessing it should be disabled so it uses http instead (emby addon settings > emby). I'm not sure what you mean, since reaching your server is via http, and your files are accessed via smb?

I had tried https to see if it would make a difference, but didn't. The problem started with use of http. OK, so the issue is between http and SMB. Got it. Thx.
