pastryninja 0
Hi, I'm having issues with recordings. Basically, they get stuck as Active Recordings until the server is reset. A small < 2MB file is created in the recordings folder but it isn't playable. This problem occurs randomly as far as I can tell. Sometimes a recording will be successfully, other times not. I'm using the built in Emby Live TV for recordings on Windows 10. I don't have any plugins installed. I have a HD Homerun Prime on a Verizon Fios cable card. The emby server is connected via ethernet to the same router as the HDHR. Emby Server Version: Version 3.0.5915.0 (auto updating from beta channel) I've had this issue for a couple weeks but didn't have a chance to sit down and try and figure out what the problem is till now. In the attached log there is a recording that starts at 2016-03-22 21:00:00.0213 but never seems to end. Any ideas? Thanks, server-log.txt
pastryninja 0
Here's another example from Friday in the logs where the a recording started according to the logs but there's no indication that it finished. The recording shows up in Active recordings and the file is in the recordings folder but the file is small and unplayable. The recording (Sleepy Hollow) starts at 2016-03-25 20:00:00.0195 There's also a successful recording in this log that starts at 2016-03-25 22:00:00.0084 ServerLog.txt
Luke 37063
are there recording transcoding logs?
pastryninja 0
Here are some logs from the past 2 days. 3 recordings are "Active Recordings" but exhibit the same problem I've described. haeffnkr 3
I have the same issue if I check the "convert to mp4 friendly streaming" option.
Smok@zz 4
I have also been experiencing this issue for the past few recordings. What is interesting is that it is not all of them but i would say recently it has been about 80% of the recordings. To the point about transcoding logs, i do have some 3 hung ffmpeg processes running on windows 10 and i cannot remove the bad recording files until i kill the ffpmeg processes. I also have the "convert to mp4 friendly streaming" checked. I will test the functionality without it. If you need log files, please let me know. Thanks. Smok@zz 4
Mods - any update on this? I disabled the MP4 option and one of two recordings failed last night. TWD timer fired on time but literally recording nothing (the .ts file shows 0 KB). The second recording for Quantico recording everything. I have attached the log files for review. pastryninja 0
I turned off the "convert to mp4 friendly streaming" option last week and see fewer issues but had a recording on Friday that failed. There were 2 recordings scheduled for that night but Sleepy Hollow failed. transcode-123990cd-592b-4579-8cad-31f1ec0a7a7e.txt transcode-628dd751-a0ba-427b-b7b2-84934036f498.txt transcode-57bf864a-14aa-43e4-9391-de8ae090b3f4.txt server-63595102306.txt transcode-0756f502-6d7d-4b61-ace2-0b925bb74339.txt
Smok@zz 4
I think we are alone on this one guys - either they are not responding because they are busy with other issues or they don't have an answer for us so they are remaining silent. Either way, i turned NextPVR back up and recording are flowing again as they should be. However, I would like to be able to disable the series recordings in emby without removing them. I would like to think that at some point this bug will be fixed but until then, i would rather not clean out all my series just to set it back up again. In the meantime, i have been going through and cancelling the pending recordings as that is the only way i can get them to stop recording without removing the series. On a side note - has anyone noticed that when windows 10 reboots and you have the server set to start as a service, it never actually starts? The service is set to auto so there shouldn't be a problem but it just wont start that way. I can manually start it as a service or run the application in the task tray. Perhaps, these two are related in someway...
Luke 37063
You're not alone, i have scheduled series recordings going multiple times a day waiting for it to happen so that i can look into the sequence of events. I am thinking it might be momentary signal drop on the hdhr leading to a lost connection which we're not recovering from.
Smok@zz 4
thanks Luke - just felt like we were alone since we hadn't received any response - not even a "we are looking into it" I really think its a windows 10 thing but it had been working up until 2-3 version ago. Sadly, i cannot recall the exact one where things were running as they should. if any logs would help you get a clearer picture (other than what was provided above), please let me know. Thanks
Luke 37063
Right now there are two things that I think can disrupt recordings but have not fully confirmed yet - small signal drops on the hdhr, and also, tampering with the recording file during the recording process. That could be you tampering with it manually, or some internal process of the server. For example, is your recording path also setup as a library path in emby server? I think that can potentially cause an issue. Another thing that I think can happen but haven't confirmed, is that if you use the HDHR with other software during the recording process, I think we've seen some cases where the HDHR aborts active streams instead of having that software show an error message. Smok@zz 4
Could be HDHR drops but maybe someone still running windows 7 can confirm if they experience this or not. I double checked my recording and library paths and they are not the same. I do not have anything else sharing the HDHR as all my clients are running Android TV from either a NP or my Bravia. Not sure what other software on my server would be utilizing it, if any could also be with the version of ffmpeg as that is what is getting hung and not closing Edited April 7, 2016 by Smok@zz
haeffnkr 3
I tried this again last night and it failed again. Starts to build the .mp4 file and has nothing in it, recording never finishes, etc. haeffnkr
jonathanrn 1
I've had these problems in the past and unfortunately it was why I cancelled my Premiere account. I was unable to watch the program while recording or else it would 'break' the recording and remain as an active recording until I restarted the computer. I've been monitoring these forums to see when that gets fixed. I too have an HDHR Prime. It would happen whether the automatic transcode was active or not. I hope this issue gets fixed soon so I can reactivate my Premiere account!! Jonathan

pastryninja 0
FWIW i was able to resolve my problem where I was getting partial recordings or recordings that were extremely small (0-1MB) that were getting stuck as Active Recordings. I did 2 things. 1. Turned off the option for "Automatically convert recordings to a streaming friendly format" (I'm still getting errors with this turned on) 2. Moved my HDHR and emby server from the router supplied by Verizon to their own switch I had lying around It's been about a week and half and haven't had any dropped recordings. Very interesting about #2. I have recently moved all of my networking equipment around and now have both the server and the HDHR working off the same gigabit switch. I'll reinstall Emby just to check out whether I can duplicate your findings. Jonathan

earthtorob 5
I am not at my server now so i can not get those logs. But I am having the same problem the other fellow is having. My shows will record but the active recordings widow show about a dozen recording still being active. Even though the recording has stopped hours or days ago. I read through the thread and I did not see a solution.
