kingy444 108
I may be missing something or perhaps this could be moved to feature requests if not IS there any way to set a manual recording in the EMBY. ie. Record from 5:56PM till 7:21 PM rather than just recording an episode of something'' Secondly, is there any way to series record a show, ie. Set a filter to record all episodes of "The Flash" whenever they air. Assume we would need some optiosn there for filtering episodes you already recorded etc too
ebr 14913
Manual time-frame doesn't exist yet. Series record does - as long as the item in question in known to be an episode of a series. This will depend on the data from the guide provider.
alm7878 11
ebr, I ran across this post searching for the ability to record based on manual parameters such as channel, start time and duration. My use case is for variable length content such as College football games. Your response above indicates that this topic has at least been discussed. Is this a planned feature for a future release or still in discussion? Thanks.

A workaround you can do and is what a lot of people who records Sports do, is set the padding on the back end of the recording to go about 30 minutes, 45 minutes or even 60 minutes beyond when the guide says the game should end. Then you're covered if it goes over.
Luke 37068
Yea you already do this with post-padding.
alm7878 11
Yep, that is my default work-around with mixed results. I have tried post padding with 60 minutes and I have yet to get the scheduled time + 60 minutes. It always terminates early. Sometimes it occurs before the scheduled end or during a portion of the post padding. I may be experiencing another reported issue where my hdhomerun prime can't go 4+ hours without a drop that causes the recording to stop. I will troll the logs and see if I can glean any useful information. Thanks for the replies.
Guest asrequested
You should post a log when the padding option doesn't work
alm7878 11
UPDATE: I encountered a prematurely terminated recording yesterday and trolled the logs for clues and I found the root cause. Even though I have >3TB of available disk storage on my NAS I was using the default transcoding temporary path which points to a local directory on my media server. This only has ~30GB of available space and I am getting disk full errors at times with long recordings or multiple recordings. I validated the root cause by redirecting the temp files to my NAS and I successfully recorded a 6 hour block of content. I will most likely get a second drive for my media server to keep the temp files local and minimize the network traffic, but at least I now understand the failure mechanism and a plan in place to resolve it. Per my original post, it would still be nice to have the ability record a channel for a specific recurring daily or weekly time slot. This is probably hanging on to a defunct paradigm from a bygone era of VCR recordings, but some shows don't lend themselves to Series recording using season/episode designations. Thanks for all the input and especially to Luke and the other developers for providing such a great product! My Emby Premier subscription is a great value!
FordGT90Concept 61
Necroing an old post... I believe manual recordings still aren't supported, correct? I would be using this now if I could because my local PBS affiliate isn't updating guide information for Impeachment Trial scheduling (they haven't since Friday of last week). I'm having to do the padding thing which is suboptimal simply because 1) have to do math, 2) the title of the show won't reflect what it is, and 3) the recommendations is going to think I watched a show I would never watch if the guide information wasn't wrong. It would be nice to be able to enter a title (what the files will be saved as), channel, start time, and duration (30 minute increments up to 24 hours). ebr 14913
Hi. No, all recording functions are designed around programs right now. Manual recording is on the future list. Thanks.
