Issue description:  Ever since about the big 2.1.0d release I haven't been able to view any photos.  It takes almost 3 minutes to get to the second screen after clicking photos from the menu and then nothing (see pic below).  Photos from screen saver works fine.  I have 64+ GB of photos

Steps to reproduce:

Click "Photos" from menu

Wait for a few minutes before second screen shows up

Then I just get a background with the word "Photos" in the top left (see pic)

My TV/HTS/BD Player model number:

F8000 with SEK2000 evolution kit

My firmware version:

1030

Other TVs etc. the issue has been reproduced on:

Can reproduce issue with photos on my F6500W HTS

My Emby server version:

3.0.5881

My current Emby Samsung client version:

2.1.2

Other Emby Samsung versions the issue can be reproduced in:

This has been happening for awhile now, probably since the big release of version 2.1.0d.  Before that my photos worked fine

Supporting information to include logs and pictures where applicable:

There should be 18 folders with Years at this point.  It never goes any further though.  It also says 1/3 at the bottom though you can't scroll around, so not sure what it's counting there

56c739f71ac62_WP_20160219_006.jpg

There is nothing in the apps log even mentioning photos.  All I see is the normal login information and then a logout message.

Here is the server log during the test, but not seeing anything there either

Edit: forgot to mention that the app locks up after getting the above screen.  Need to exit and restart app

Figured out what the counter in the bottom left is.  It's the counter from the Home Page still, so it's carrying over to the Photos page and not changing.  Like mentioned before it should show 18 year folders at this screen and counter should be 1/18 probably. The buttons to the right are probably also from the Home Screen.

Can you provide how the content is added in the server library, and then the folder structure of that directory please?

The folder is of Photos type in my media library.  The folder structure is "c:\users\username\Pictures\Year\Location\*jpg,*png"     I've never had an issue before which is odd.

Here is a pic of my library.  Possibly the number of folders deep (they are mostly 5 levels down), or permissions (though I'm not having any issue with Home videos which are in my user folder also) ?

From my playing around, the server only likes my photos if the library has a maximum of 1 folder before coming across photos. Anything else and the web interface just doesnt work for me.

I think the app expects the same.

It'l need more investigating, but photo support hasnt been great!

Thanks chess, I did just try moving them to "C:\Pictures\Year\Location\*.jpg"  but had the same result.  Will try to eliminate some of the subfolders next.  Maybe add a little at a time to see what's going on.

Edit: I did find one folder that was even deeper "C:\Pictures\Year\Location\Sub-location\*.jpg"

Just looking through some of the old bug reports it looks like @@cmcg fixed an issue with 4 levels in 1.0.0e.  It appears my structure was working after that time (I'm sure it was working until recently too).

Still playing though to see what I find.  Right now my photos are working again with just a few folders added back in.  Definitely something it doesn't like on my end though so on the right track.

Edit: I think I forgot to mention earlier, but the whole app locks up when this happens.  Modified original post

@@CBers do you know the most pictures you have in any one folder?  Do you have any that are empty?

I don't think I have any empty folders.

I could create one and report back.

Just added an empty "2016" folder directly in my Photos folder and the app still works OK.

Ok, thanks.  I'm adding folders back one at a time to try and find the issue.   It's working with several folders just one level deep so far.   I've got some folders with 500+ photos and some folder names with special characters, so doing a lot of trial and error right now.  There are just photos in there, so no video or mixed content

I remember fixing that. I had four nested empty folders with picture in the last one and it worked fine. I don't know what's changed for you but the client photo browser code hasn't changed recently at all.

Thanks, that eliminates that.  I haven't taken any pictures or added any in several months either.  Really weird.  New OS, server versions, etc.  Just not sure.  The webclient shows everything just fine which makes it odd.

Just when I think I figured it out though then I do some test that disproves it.  When/if I figure it out I'll post up in case it helps someone else.  Thanks for the info

Well, I found a work around for this issue (sort of).  If I go to Media Folders and try to access Photos the problem still occurs the first time, but then if I go to Photos again using any possible way (Media folders, side menu, top menu, etc) then my Photos work.  This workaround does not work if I try to access Photos from the menus the first time as that will lock up the app.  So there is something about going to my Photos using the Media Folders first that allows my Photos to then be seen the second time I try.

I'm not sure it's getting that far :)  I did find a way into my photos (see post above), but requires me to try twice every time

@@cmcg is there any way you could add some log entries around the Photos code at least temporarily?  I don't see anything past the screen saver going away message.  In the server log I can see the HTTP GET commands used to create the folder images, then that's it.

I presume you can also see the server response to those GET requests? Sorry I've not helped you with this yet. Busy week.

Here is the server log of the app getting the last couple thumbs (entries 4 and 8) before it quits and that is the last entries before I get the result you see in post #1

I've circled the two thumbs in the log file you see it getting.  There is nothing else in the log after it gets those 2 files.  The photos in the folders below without thumbs are all in subfolders of course.

Sorry I've not helped you with this yet. Busy week.

No worries, I'm still trying to figure out why this all of a sudden started happening.  I've got some more ideas so I haven't given up :)  It just takes a long time to rescan when you are adding and removing thousands of pictures at a time.
