And sound effects was set to "none" but I was still getting the ping sound while navigating so I assumed that wasn't it. However, I just changed it from "none" to "default sound effects" and then back to "none" again. Now I am not getting sounds while navigating. So it appears almost as if the menu setting was correct but the underlying setting had not been initialized. It's working now so I can't test it again. But that seems to be what was happening. Odd. I'm 95-ish% sure it was set to none while I was still getting sounds and it stopped once I changed it to something else and then back again. This was literally the first time I ever opened theater mode.
