convertapple 0
Got frustrated with Plex on android as it constantly transcodes stuff unnecessarily, this is even worse as it does it on every device (ran all media through convertapple that creates valid apple h264/aac/ac3 m4v's) . All my media is playable native on iPhone, yet this runs up ffmpeg presumably to convert it! WHY!!!

Luke 37132
Hi, welcome. The app only transcodes when necessary. Please see our wiki for a list of supported media formats for the app as well as best practices for direct play: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/iOS Also, please see our transcoding wiki in particular the section titled "Why is my media transcoding" https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Transcoding Jus fyi -the iphone does not support ac3, or at least it is not exposed to developers for use in their apps. the only way for us to support it in-app would be to try and obtain a license from Dolby. You may also wish to check out our android app which uses a video player based on Vlc and can play quite a bit without transcoding.
