Murf 3
I am able to connect to my server (setup on my pc) via my roku box. Although I am unable to access it from my android, keeps telling me it cannot locate the server. I have my ip set to static on my pc. I also already have a remote url via dlink. *Mydomain.dlinkddns.com that I use to remote desktop into my pc. I put that url into the advanced settings section of the server. I also tried using the remote ip listed on server page and I get the same error. My server is set to not run at start up(just the services run, no icon in the taskbar) Not sure what I am doing wrong, appreciate any help/tips. mjktg99 34
You need to set up port forwarding in your router. The default port for emby is 8096 and you need to forward that to your server.
Murf 3
You need to set up port forwarding in your router. The default port for emby is 8096 and you need to forward that to your server. Ahh ok, TCP or UDP? edit: I enabled it on both but still saying it cannot connect to server. I tried using the remote ip it gives me, which is my external ip address, and I also tried the url I use when connecting to my pc via Remote desktop. shorty1483 452
Check out firewall on the PC with Emby Server if the port is open or if Emby is listed as exclusion. Gesendet von meinem HTC One_M8 mit Tapatalk
mangis 10
I found with mine I had to enable NAT loopback on the router as it couldn't resolve the external address from within the network. Using the local IP of the server 192.x.x.x (or whatever naming convention you are using) worked fine but the external address wouldn't work. Murf 3
Something is still not right, external url stopped working,(though still works fine for Remote desktop connection) so I erased the url setting to let it auto populate with ip. When I am away from home, I cannot connect via the external ip. Even using emby connect, it sees my server when I log in, but says it cannot make a connection. While I am at home and connected via my device, I can Go into Server and click on the local ip to bring up the web interface. but nothing comes up when I click the external ip link. 8096 is open in my router. Appreciate any help

CBers 6771
It may be open but is it forwarded to the correct ip? Good point, Further to that, the PC that Emby server is running on NEEDS a static IP address and not use DHCP.
Murf 3
Ok, no it does not see it, It was working before not too sure what changed. Well I am a moron, I had port 8069 set in my router. Will see if my changes worked on Monday when I will be away from home. Any other way to check remote server is working externally, without actually leaving home? griffen247 5
Good point, Further to that, the PC that Emby server is running on NEEDS a static IP address and not use DHCP. Just to clarify - The comment above was posted for access to the Emby server PC on the internal local network. For actual external 'remote access' which is when I'm away from home further setup is needed. To stream content via Emby Connect remotely away from home, then also needed is a WAN static IP address for your modem? It looks like my ISP cycles this a few times a week. Thanks in advance, tried looking through forum in time that I have, but it appears many people are confused by what 'remote access' is when talking about networks as opposed to features in Emby! Luke 37067
you don't need a wan static ip. Emby Connect and/or a DDNS can make that easier.
griffen247 5
ok it's working now, for some reason I had to delete the port mapping in modem and setup again. So, silly question does the server ping Emby connect at intervals to update it's address? Wondering what will happen when my ISP hands out new address to modem. griffen247 5
Awesome! didn't really want to shell out for the DDNS service, can only use two provided my ISP and they are annual fee! Thanks for the help Luke
Marv 9
Hi, how often is Emby Server actually updating the remote ip adress? Because for me it seems that it only gets updated after I restart my server. The problem is that normally I have my server in sleep mode, so after wake up it still reports the old IP adress to Emby Connect until I restart the server.
