Dan64 30
Since Windows 10 has removed WMC, I'd like to know if Emby for WMC will move to stand-alone application or will remain an add-on for WMC ?
Solution ebr 14935 Posted July 11, 2015 Solution Share Posted July 11, 2015 By definition "Emby for WMC" cannot be anything but a plug-in for WMC . There is lots of discussion out here on the general topic of no WMC in Win 10. Do a search on those two terms. Emby for WMC will stay around as long as there are enough users to warrant it. Deihmos 147
You will need a replacement such as Emby Theater or Kodi or stick with Win 7 or 8.1. Edited July 11, 2015 by Deihmos
Dan64 30
Thanks for your advise. I'm not in a hurry to move to Win10. I have 1 year to decide if is necessary an upgrade... Inviato dal mio iPhone utilizzando Tapatalk
nicko84 37
Hi ! I use EMby for WMC since many years now and i've tried to use Emby Theater. No way for the moment on Windows 8.1 or 10 because Emby Theater doesn't work good...i've installed it on Seven, 8.1 and 10...and too bad each time. Emby fot WMC is good but you need to use an external video player has MPC-HC to have good results (look to frequencies issue...) I hope Dev will improve Emby Theater quickly because it's time now... NB : Kodi is not has friendly has Emby but video support is far away from Emby...
dannieboiz 13
I lurked on today was going to post this same question but I guess others out there have the same concern. Over the years, Emby for WMC has grown to be my ONLY media player. I tried Emby Theater but it just doesn't cut. It felt too much like netflix IMO. With WMC going away, I hope that soon, Emby can fully support live TV (HDHomeRun) on its own with full guide support without the needs for WMC. pdebelak 2
Would love to move to Windows 10 but because of 2 reasons, I will stick with Windows 8.1 Media Center edition. 1. Haven't got the tuner cards working in EMBY as yet and haven't really looked at what is possible with LiveTV outside of Windows Media Center. I like the PVR capabilities of Media center 2. Emby classic for Media center is so damn good, and having trialled Emby Theatre, I cannot let go of Emby Classic. I would move to Windows 10 if Emby classic was a stand alone product and happy to pay a fair price for Emby as I am one of those people who don't mind paying for software I use frequently. Am also disappointed that Microsoft have dropped Media Center from Windows 10 as I run 4 media centers across my home and have done so since XP Media Center. Emby is by far the best media player I've tried and seen so far. Ticks all my boxes and integrates really well with Cyberlinks PowerDVD15.
iam4uk 26
Emby for WMC is the greatest program for watching movies and stored TV recordings, by far. Emby Theater is not even in the same universe as Emby for WMC, but neither is Kodi at this point.

And I'm hopeful it will turn into something that can replace EMC succesfully.
Doctor Bob 9
Emby for WMC is the greatest program for watching movies and stored TV recordings, by far. And I'm hopeful it will turn into something that can replace EMC succesfully. I second that! I have yet to see another media center program that comes close to WMC. WMC is easy to use and like your first smart phone it draws you in. Other programs such as Kodi or the Media Portal, hits you in the head and tells you to go away! The only major criticism I can say about WMC is with regards to its Movie strip. The WMC Movie strip was rather basic and could not handle large video collections very well. This is when I discover the Media Browser (emby) server and the Media Browser (emby) Classic plug-in. I was completely blown away with emby the first time I installed it and still am to this day. The Emby Classic plug-in was the missing link in WMC. The combination of emby and WMC is what makes this such a good product. Our Media Center PC runs Windows 7 Pro x64. There is not way I will change the OS on this PC. There is no need to as everything is already there. However, what’s distressing is MS’ decision to drop this wonderfully piece of software. I consider WMC one of the best software packages MS has ever developed. Why they ever depreciated it is beyond me, its most irrational. But I guess so was Windows ME, Vista and 8/8.1! I sure hope that the emby community continues to support the emby Classic plug-in for many years to come. I am sure what we would all like to see is that MS open sources WMC and the emby community picks it up and runs with it. Long live WMC.
dowen01 0
Good news everyone Download the WindowsMediaCenter_10.0.10134.0v2.1.rar file here. Use WINRAR in extract the folder to your main system drive and open it. Then right-click on the file bin\Installer.cmd and select Run as administrator. Press any key to exit the installer when it’s finished. Make a quick Windows search for Media Center and it will be your top match, but you can also find it under Window Accessories in the Start menu. You should be able to run WMC normally from there. Tested with the Emby add-on

dredrizzah 2
Whenever I exit out of WMC on my xbox360 it freezes and will not work until I restart my htpc. And I notice this problem only happened with Windows 8.1 when using Windows 7 I did not have this issue. I'm a strong supporter of Media Browser and I think it's the best application for your Windows extender however it doesn't work good with Windows 8.1 Edited October 16, 2015 by dredrizzah
