Nell1983 0
Hey, New to this. How do I setup Emby so that I keep the files and folders that I have on my windows PC? It seems to be automatically sorting stuff, which I don't want it to. Thanks
Vidman 589
Do you mean your actual files, or just how emby is displaying them? it shouldn't be moving files unless you have set up auto organise Edited April 19, 2015 by Vidman
Nell1983 0
thanks for replying... Maybe my issue isnt with the server end. To make myself clear. I have a windows pc with a drive called "Series" on it.. containing folders e.g. "24", "Prison Break" etc. I have a folder named "HBO" in there, which contains folders of HBO shows (e.g. "The Sopranos", "The Wire" etc). I added the series folder in emby, didnt do anything else. I use Kodi on an android box in my living room. I wanted to add the series directory, so i click 'videos' and browse to upnp, then emby, then select the "series" folder that I just added.. assumed that was it. However, when I open the series folder, there is no HBO folder, but "The Sopranos" appears in there with the other HBO shows. Being new to all this, I've no idea if this is a problem with Emby or Kodi... any help appreciated!
Solution Luke 37113 Posted April 19, 2015 Solution Share Posted April 19, 2015 the best thing to do is start in the server web interface and get that configured how you like it. from there it will trickle down to the apps. so, assuming you've setup the library from the administrative side of it, now head over to the user area in the web interface. you do this with the top left menu -> home. the first time you open the web interface you'll be asked to take a tour and then at the end you'll be asked if you'd like to setup your preferences, and some of these preferences relate to the library and how content is grouped and displayed. if you already went to the web interface and skipped or declined the tour, then you can access these settings by clicking your user icon the top right -> my preferences.
Vidman 589
Using kodi's upnp is probably not the best option you have available to you with your setup, you can probably get it to work how you wish with some trial as emby is very configurable, but the dedicated android app or dedicated kodi addons will give you more options and more features than using upnp Edited April 19, 2015 by Vidman

So just from the organization aspect this will work there too.
Nell1983 0
Thanks very much people. Luke, that worked perfectly. I can't believe I missed the menu in the top left! I unticked the 'automatically group content into movies, music and tv'.
