Ric 5
I've just made a fresh installation of Win8.1 with Media Center I've installed the shark codec (latest v505) to read mkv, multi audio stream, ecc. Shark configuration done. Mainly using LAV splitter. I have audio through optic cable (SPDIF with 5.1 speakers) setup in the audio tab. WMC audio config done: 5.1 and the 6 speakers work. Everythink works (MKV, multilanguage, avi, ecc) in Windows Media Player. It also work with Windows Media Center. BUT when I try to play Movies in MBC it does not work and come back to the movie details page; If I go to the WMC home screen, and scroll down till "in execution" I see the blue screen with "impossible to play the video" (I don't know the exact translation of the text i wrote between "") This is very strange... It looks like is an audio configuration issue, because In MBC I'm only able to play file with audio in mp3 2.0. But it still more strange because in WMP and WMC I'm able to play all the files with any audio stream (Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1). I'm using MB since years, since MB2, but it's the first time that MBC is not able to play what WMP and WMC can play. Thanks for any help
AdrianW 1053
I can't remember the setup with Shark007 (I switched to using MPC-HC as an external player a long time ago). But, I think you have to make sure you setup the video and audio settings in BOTH the 32bit and the 64bit versions of the Shark settings apps. ebr 14930
Still be sure it isn't an access issue. Posting an MBC log would give some clues.
Ric 5
Thanks to all, as I remembered FFDshow setup is quite complicate. This is why years ago I decided to switch to shark. Ebr, I do not believe it is an access issue, because MBC can play movie with audio mpeg 2.0, but it has problem in playing movie with Dolby digital or DTS audio (located in the same folders). I've also cancel and re-add the media folder. Anyway you are the guru, find here the log, hoping it can help to clarify For log purpose I've tried to played 3 movies: - "Cinderella Man" with Dolby Digital, NOT working with MBC (it works with WMC), - "Monuments Men" with audio DTS, NOT working with MBC (it works with WMC), - "Italy in a day", audio mp3 2.0, working! Question: Is it normal that WMC is able to play a movie and MBC is not? Thanks for any help MBClassic-122015c2b6b79043b3488c85e9c3c3182b2d4d.log
ebr 14930
The MBC and server setup looks to be okay. It is definitely a problem with the codecs/content. As mentioned previously, be sure you have the x64 codecs installed and configured properly if you are on a 64bit OS version. Personally, I'd uninstall Shark and just install LAV. Much simpler. Ric 5
Thanks Ebr, My OS is 32 bit, so a problem less to check. Just I'm not sure it is a codec issue, as it works fine with WMP & WMC. It only does not work with MBC, but I'm unable to understand the reason. I still have the BIG question: Is it normal that WMC is able to play a movie and MBC is not? In my experience I've always setting the codec testing them with WMP, and then it was always working fine with MBC. Thanks
ebr 14930
Well, first confirm, when you say "With WMC" what do you really mean? Because WMP and WMC are not exactly the same thing when it comes to playback (but may be close enough on a 32bit system). But the basic answer is no, if the item will play from the WMC video library then it usually will play from within MBC - as long as the paths are correct and permissions are set properly. I think we've confirmed they are in your case.
Ric 5
Thank you very much Ebr for the support, "with WMC" I mean: right click on the file, open with WMC and it plays. the same with WMP. Or for WMC directly from the WMC video library. Out of the MB permission, anything else I can check in the MBC or MBserver configuration?
CBers 6771
That's a very useful guide - and also a great reason to switch to MPC-HC (i.e. virtually no configuration required). Sorry, that makes no sense.

CBers 6771
Thanks CBers, what you suggest: FFDshow or LAV? I use the FFDshow options on my MBC installations and have never had any issues. I don't use any codec packs. . Ric 5
Hello, Unbelievable, I've tried with the LAV and is the same result as with shark. Everything OK with WMP or WMC but MBC is unable to play video with audio in Dolby and DTS. MBC plays only video with audio mp3 2.0. I'm crying as I cannot live without MBC, but as no sense to see movie in 2.0 in year 2015 having a dolby surround system in my house.... Now we can start to assume is NOT a codec issue.... Anything else to setup in MBC or MB server? thanks
CBers 6771
Are you using ac3filter? I do and have output same as input.
Ric 5
Thanks CBers for the suggestion (any idea is welcome as I'm out of ideas), I've already tried to enable AC3filter. When I enable AC3filter MBC plays the video in 2.0 output (even if the file have a DTS or DD 5.1). But when I set in the AC3filter config "use SPDIF" MBC does NOT play the video (with DTS or DD audio) anymore. I've also tried to say output format as input format ("do not change") or tried to fix an output of 5.1, but nothing change. :-(
Ric 5
Technology sucks. After having reinstalled and re-setup any single element (MBC, MBserver, WMC, audio drivers, shark, LAV) and spent hours in trying all the possible audio coded configurations, I've re-install (for the 2nd time in 2days) Win 8.1, same files, same drivers, same all.... ....magic: everything works!!!! No comment!!! No, I've a comment: thanks to all of you for the quick and reactive support!!! Without your support I would have spent days/weeks to try all possible option before decide to make the extreme step (reinstall Win8.1)
