nicko84 37
I'd like to translate MB3 Classic in French. I've tried to tanslate C:\ProgramData\MediaBrowser-Classic\Localization\strings-en.xml but this file seems to be always copy and paste every time MB Classic is started (from MB Server perhaps ?) In MB2 version it was possible to translate string-en.xml and create strings-fr.xml for example and MB Classic then starts in French. It seems to be not possible in MB3 Classic... Thanks for your answers
sinjen 36
What happens when you copy strings-en.xml into strings-fr.xml? Does the new file disappear? Is it just not used inside MB-Classic? You can't edit strings-en.xml because it is the default language file and making changes to it isn't supported apparently. However I think you should still be able to create strings-fr.xml and use it. If I recall correctly, MB-Classic reads the pc's language setting to determine which language file to use. I'm not 100% sure about that, but is the machine you're trying to use strings-fr.xml on set to French? -Sinjen
ebr 14925
Sinjen is correct. You need to create strings-fr.xml and then set your Windows language to French.
nicko84 37
My Windows language is French I created strings-fr.xml (copy and traduction on strings-en.xml) and copy it in C:\ProgramData\MediaBrowser-Classic\Localization\ When i copy strings-fr.xml with items in French and when i launch MB-Classic all the contain of string-fr.xml is immediately replaced by English items ! It seems crazy but i did several times to be sure and all the time with the same result... NB : I'm using dev versions of MB3 Server and MB Classic Edited November 3, 2013 by nicko84
ebr 14925
Maybe you found a bug. Can I please see a MBC log from when this happens (the .fr file is replaced with english)?

nicko84 37
Hello, No, i've just copy and modify the string-en.xml file into string-fr.xml file.
ebr 14925
Your modifications may contain invalid characters for XML. Did you put an '&' in anything?
nicko84 37
Here is the file strings-fr.xml (partial trad...begining and around the end) strings-fr.xml
ebr 14925
I believe all the accented characters are not being interpreted properly in xml. That is your problem.
Solution ebr 14925 Posted November 4, 2013 Solution Share Posted November 4, 2013 Try this. Add the following line at the very top of your file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> Then, when you save the file in notepad, look at the bottom of the save as window. There will be a drop-down to specify the encoding. It probably says Ansi. Change that to UTF-8 and save it. Then try it.
nicko84 37
I think i did what you said but no changes....the file is UTF8 but when i start MB Classic all items are back to english... ebr 14925
Tough for me to test in MBC due to the language thing but I can tell you that document does not load as xml in IE. The one below does. strings-fr.xml
