ronl3 2
Hi, Emby Premiere user here. I'm experimenting with Emby on my Zidoo Z9X. Have Emby setup to use the Zidoo external player. Everything works fine except playing 3D ISO files. For these files Emby shows "Video: <Unknown>" on the movie's info screen and when I try to play it I get an error "Cant play video." Tried both latest Android client and Android TV client, same problem. Running server on Windows (v 4.8.0.80). I can play the same file from the same location using the Zidoo Home Theater App, so the problem is not the Zidoo player and the file. It seems to be something in how Emby recoginizes the file and invokes the external Zidoo player. Any ideas how to fix this? Use emby already on my PC and Shield and smart TV in the other room, would love to have the same interface on the Zidoo.
Luke 37133
Hi can please you obtain an android app log by following the instructions here: Thanks.
ronl3 2
I was able to create the log and I can see it in the emby interface, but how do I get it off the Zidoo to send it to you?

There's a function in the app to share it, assuming you have apps installed that it can share to.

Luke 37133
We passed a url to the iso file: Wed Feb 07 19:59:04 EST 2024 launchIntent http://192.168.0.51:8096/emby/videos/4711/original.iso?DeviceId=81606642f4bf7350&MediaSourceId=23a8d4f99754cfc5c9e68cbccc65c1f7&PlaySessionId=3b116704f29749eeb13effd007e7f83a&api_key=e960c92b10464f00b1bba86d8adae44d Maybe it doesn't support it via url and needs the network path. ronl3 2
I only have the problem with movies which show "Video: <Unknown>" on the movie's info screen. Are such cases somehow handled differently by emby?

ronl3 2
Some additional info: The problem is exclusively with ISO files, and in fact it doesnt matter if they are 3D ISO or not 3D, no ISO files play via Emby. (But they do play when opened using Zidoo's built-in media manager.) I tested opening an MKV file and created a log. As far as I can tell the log entry is the same as for the ISO file, but this one opens. worked: Thu Feb 08 16:23:27 EST 2024 launchIntent http://192.168.0.51:8096/emby/videos/281/original.mkv?DeviceId=81606642f4bf7350&MediaSourceId=abb5c9260d7490f49ea092a0e381b3ab&PlaySessionId=641acd7aaebf473c97c613b6d6ef4856&api_key=e960c92b10464f00b1bba86d8adae44d didnt work: Thu Feb 08 16:24:04 EST 2024 launchIntent http://192.168.0.51:8096/emby/videos/4711/original.iso?DeviceId=81606642f4bf7350&MediaSourceId=23a8d4f99754cfc5c9e68cbccc65c1f7&PlaySessionId=81280bd9b90646058b1bd9880fad90e4&api_key=e960c92b10464f00b1bba86d8adae44d If you want the whole log file, it is attached (emby_log2.txt) Is it possible that emby is doing some transcoding of the ISO file, and for that reason it cannot be opened by the Zidoo? To help debug this I turned on verbose logging on the server, restarted the server, and tried to play a single ISO file. Log attached. Thanks for your help... emby_log2.txt embyserver(1).txt
ronl3 2
I mentioned above that I also could not play another ISO file that is not 3D. I wonder if that could be another issue, because when looking at the server logs I noticed a ffmpeg transcode log with an error. (attached, in case it is useful). FYI, this ISO file opens/plays fine on the same PC where the Emby Server is running if I open it using VLC. The 3D ISO files did not produce any ffmpeg transcode log files. ffmpeg-transcode-d55809f9-0250-41e8-8fce-98d4de25b432_1.txt
Luke 37133
Right there is no support for transcoding iso. We can only pass the whole thing to zidoo.
ronl3 2
Then at least it is strange why it tried to transcode the ISO file in the log I posted directly above your reply. Any other ideas what steps I could take to try to solve why Emby is unable to launch only ISO files on the Zidoo?

ronl3 2
Hi, yes but it is a little complicated to get. I'll try to do it and post it here.
ronl3 2
OK, see logs attached in zip. The most relevant log (I think) is the DumpLog_20240213_173027.log" file in the "DumpLog" dir. I found this error in line 1392 in that file: 02-13 17:31:05.369 W/RtkMediaPlayer_JAVA( 3562): Couldn't open http://192.168.0.51:8096/emby/videos/4711/original.iso?DeviceId=81606642f4bf7350&MediaSourceId=23a8d4f99754cfc5c9e68cbccc65c1f7&PlaySessionId=b5374e4d5155475aa0b6d7cdc6c537cd&api_key=e960c92b10464f00b1bba86d8adae44d: java.io.FileNotFoundException: No content provider: http://192.168.0.51:8096/emby/videos/4711/original.iso?DeviceId=81606642f4bf7350&MediaSourceId=23a8d4f99754cfc5c9e68cbccc65c1f7&PlaySessionId=b5374e4d5155475aa0b6d7cdc6c537cd&api_key=e960c92b10464f00b1bba86d8adae44d Hope this helps... allineedis 18
Following…actually landed here by search. Was wondering if emby could launch iso files on the Zidoo before getting one. It seems it should, but currently is broken?! My use-case is that I have a lot of concert and music iso files and ripping those to mkv is a pain. ronl3 2
It may just be a problem only on my zidoo. There are some other threads where people talk about running emby on zidoo, we need to ask if anybody else has this problem after updating to the latest zidoo/emby builds. RanmaCanada 352
Emby stopped supporting .iso files almost a decade ago. Rip them to MKV, as .iso support is no longer entertained by the devs as it was experimental. You can try strm files, but that's it. The rest of us have moved on from .iso files, you should as well. ronl3 2
So do you know how to encode/watch full resolution frame packed 3D disks using MKV (without downscaling to half resolution SBS or OU format)? Because as I understand MKV does not support it and the only way is using ISO. If I'm wrong then please correct me, I'll be happy. In any case we're not asking Emby to support playing ISO files (although it would be nice) but just to use the external Zidoo player to play the ISO files. This works for other file types and as I understand worked in previous versions of Emby/Zidoo.

Hi Luke, I provided additional logs, any progress with this question? Two things I've noticed, not sure if they are relevant: 1. I've got "Enable external video players" turned on in app options, and when I start playing the ISO file it warns me that playing ISO files is experimental in emby... is it normal that it gives this warning when using an external player? (seems not relevant to an external player). 2. In the option to turn on the external player it says "An external player menu will be shown when starting video playback." but I dont remember seeing any menu. I wonder if it is possible that using the external player is not working? (It is definitely turned on in the options...)

It is a system menu, but some devices may not show a menu at all if there is only one player. In that case it may just send it directly to the player.
