Unable to connect via Emby Connect.

I have this set up and it has worked successfully in the past. But now, when I click on my server in Emby Connect, I get a message stating: "We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again." I have checked the server details, and the IP address is correct (i.e., it matches the remote connection address shown on the server dashboard). If I click "Skip" on the Emby Connect sign in page and enter that IP address to connect manually, I get the same error message. However, if I connect directly to that address, by using the link shown on the server dashboard (i.e., not via Emby Connect), it works without issue. (I have tested all this by turning off WiFi on my phone to make sure I am connecting from a different network.)

What could be preventing connection via Emby Connect from working, when direct remote connection works fine?

Make sure you're using http://app.emby.media, not https://app.emby.media (notice the "s" in "https", you might need to manually drop it).

That's probably the reason, but it appears neither Firefox nor Chrome will allow the use of http, as both automatically change it to https (although the direct IP connection doesn't have a problem using http). I guess this must have been a recent change as it was working fine less than two months ago.

It's a recent change (Chrome was first).  There are settings to stop this happening (maybe only for specified websites), and you should be able to change it back in the address bar - at least you still could recently.

I tried changing it in the address bar, and they both just changed it back to https. I'll look in the browser settings.

What I've noticed is that after doing this a few times, the browser will finally let me use the plain http version.

@pwhodgeswhat settings are you referring to?

@LukeYes, the browsers may learn - but that's really inconvenient, and it's preferable to make the setting explicitly.  You may want to put these settings in the wiki.

Firefox:

When the site has opened in secure mode, you can click the closed padlock and get an option to allow insecure, but only temporarily:

image.jpeg.5cbc8d18d0d3b14705417135f0fbc0fe.jpeg

However, it's preferable to do it permanently; for this you can go into settings, find "HTTPS-Only Mode", and tell Firefox to turn off secure mode permanently for any specified site by clicking the Manage Exceptions button:

image.jpeg.a5be3c414110ff2728412aaa8c914486.jpeg

Note that when I tried it, saying "Don't enable HTTPS-Only Mode" in the first screen wasn't enough - in fact that was the setting I already had; going through to the exceptions was required to have the desired effect.

Chrome:

When the site has opened in secure mode, you can click the closed padlock and go to the site-specific settings, where you can allow insecure pages; this is not only the main page, but also allows insecure links from secure pages:

image.jpeg.a3a43f68dcc62a88b2930527d59723bf.jpeg

Although my screenshot doesn't show it, this is, as I said above, a site-specific setting.  If you go to the main settings page, you can find your way to the same option, but in that case browser-wide, which it would be better not to enable this for.

Tbh I was just trying to make temporary remote access easy for somebody else, and in the end rather than send them a load of instructions for changing the settings of their browser I just gave them the IP address (i.e., the link shown on the server dashboard) to connect directly.

I would like to chime in on that.

For me it's not possible to connect via Emby connect, regardless if I use my own domain or the hosted web app, regardless of http/https. It just always tells me that there was an error and that I should reach out to support if the error persists. Were there made any changes to it in the latest updates? I've never had this problem with it.

The error prompt asks me if I already have an Emby account, which I apparently do. After following the error promot's suggested link to emby.connect I login with my account and try to add my emby connect email address on my own user panel (all on http://app.emby.media) and the same error occurs

Have you tried removing Connect from your local user account in your Emby server, saving, and then adding it back?

Adding to this: I'm not sure why/how, but I think connecting through Emby connect is due to whatever reason not possible at the moment. I can't connect/put any other emby connect email address in my server dashboard for any other user either.

Maybe @Lukehas an idea?

When you do this does it say it worked?  Do you get an email with a link it it?  Do you click that link?

What exactly happens when you try?

"An error occured when trying to add the Emby connect account. Do you have an Emby account already? (I do, for over 8 years). If the problem persists, reach out to support@emby.media"

Sadly no. This error message always pops up, regardless from which web interface I try to put the email address (app.emby.media, localhost, example.mydomain.com etc.). No email's being send either. Is there an issue with my account? (Emby premiere user, which is working fine for everything else)

Are you sure that the email you tried to add is registered in our system?

Also I just changed my email address to see if that helps, same error. Another note is that it's happening not only for me, but for any of my users. Same error message poppin up

If you are, please post the server log from when you got that message.

Are you using a vpn on the server machine?

No, no VPN. But I'm running Emby behind a reverse proxy configuration, maybe I've messed up with some settings?

I'm using Emby + a proxy for a long time (With breaks) and never had the issue that I wasn't able to add my Emby connect to my local account. That's why I assumed there have been some changes since my last visit?
