ITGuy1024 13
I wasn't sure where to ask this - but thought you might be my people. Antennas - There's $20 ones, $80 ones, signal boosted ones, 300 mile ones, and my grandparents had an antenna on a tower attached to their house that could crush a car. Does it matter what kind of antenna I use for my HDHomerun?
roaku 797
It matters where the TV stations are relative to where your house is.

Based on looking up "ota tv station locator" and looking at the maps / signals it seems like I'm in a great spot. So the antenna doesn't really matter that much? Well, antennas have a defined distance range and matching that range to your actual distance is step one. The other options come down to things like if the stations are in the same direction, how much power they broadcast with, etc. You can start cheap and escalate if needed. Q-Droid 662
It depends. Antennas can be "tuned" for better gain in certain frequency ranges. In the USA broadcast TV can be in VHF-Lo, VHF-Hi and UHF so you can find out what your stations are using and select an antenna that can give better performance. Getting the best OTA reception is yet another rabbit hole to go down... You can get decent info from these sites: https://otadtv.com/index.html https://www.rabbitears.info/ https://www.antennasdirect.com/ I'm lucky that our local towers are in a good cluster and not too far away so a non-boosted Mohu Leaf knock-off antenna works fine.
